Fermentation Technician
Job Title: Fermentation Technician Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Fermentation Technician who will work under the direction of the Lead and Supervisor to produce various food ingredients. The successful candidate will learn good manufacturing practices and follow standardized formulas for weighing, measuring, and mixing raw materials. This role involves setting up and controlling processes such as blending, drying, bulk fermentation, extraction, and filtration, and completing appropriate documentation. Responsibilities + Display and promote positive safety behaviors at all times. + Act with safety awareness and accident prevention in mind while performing all tasks. + Work to SHE standards and encourage colleagues to do the same. + Maintain a clean and safe area of responsibility, promptly cleaning up work areas. + Operate process and utility equipment hygienically and safely in accordance with all process procedures, cGMP, HAACP, and SHE instructions and guidelines. + Set up, calibrate, and monitor instruments such as pH meters, temperature meters, conductivity meters, hydrometers, thermometers, and metal detection devices. + Set up and take down involved with the sanitation process. + Identify, troubleshoot, and respond to deviations in process, product, equipment, and performance variations. + Utilize SAP to complete timely and accurate transactions, maintaining process information (PI) sheets. + Set up recipes and/or standard operating procedures (SOPs), understand and execute operations in mixing, pH adjustment, transfers, and process sequences while documenting steps and other records. + Track and maintain inventory levels to ensure traceability. + Identify and take appropriate action for variations in raw materials, foreign debris, color changes, smell, moisture, and temperature variations. + Take samples for QA analysis. + Complete daily, weekly, and monthly sanitation schedules. + Write work instructions for work performed in the manufacturing environment. Essential Skills + 2+ years of food or chemical processing experience. + 2 years of production/quality documentation experience. + FDA and GMP experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications + 2 or 4 year degree in the Sciences with no industry experience. + Proficiency in biology, GMP, compounding, fermentation, microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, mixing, blending, and FDA regulations. Work Environment The work environment is a manufacturing facility with an aseptic/sterile environment. This role is within a bulk fermentation facility, specifically in a smaller scale fermentation operation. The company offers internal opportunities for advancement and education reimbursement. A great team culture is fostered, with many supervisors having started as technicians/operators. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
