At the highest level in this CPG incumbent provides lead worker role in training assistance and guidance in below activities to lower level deck h ands. May also serve as a lookout to ass i st in the safe navigation of the ferry vessel.
Under the general supervision of Marine Engineers, Marine Chief Engineers, Marine Pilots, Marine Operators, or Marine Masters, the incumbent of this position will have the responsibility for performing the following du t y assig n ments .

Ferryboat Deckhand 1- has a minimum hire rate of $16.06/hourly
Ferryboat Deckhand 2- has a minimum hire rate of $17.18/hourly

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No experience or training is required.

Possession of a current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) may be required at the time of appointment.

To perform manual operations and routine maintenance work aboard a ferry vessel.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Direct from a Ferryboat Supervisor. May also receive guidance from a higher-level Ferryboat Deckhand or Ferryboat Operator. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Transportation and Development. Other locations may be approved by SCS.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from other marine occupations by the presence of tasks aboard a ferry vessel.
Differs from Ferryboat Deckhand 2 by the absence of independence in performing routine manual tasks aboard a ferry vessel.
Examples of Work
Under the general supervision of Marine Engineers, Marine Chief Engineers, Marine Pilots, Marine Operators, or Marine Masters, the incumbent of this position will have the responsibility for performing the following du t y assig n ments .
4 0% Classifies vehic l es and registers class and axles of each vehicle boarding the vessel and enforces rest r ic t ions when necessary, collects appropriate toll, processes change and issues receipts. Com p letes vessel passenger a n d ve h ic l e count sheets.
30 % Performs security and safety checks on vehicles boarding and while the vessel is underway. Fastens and l oosens hawsers and mooring lines to piers. Operates bilge pumps. Traffic ramps and gates on vessel. Lowers and raises anchors, coils and splices rope for rope fenders and makes eyes in cable. Performs routine maintenance such as cleaning, Chipping, scraping, painting, changing oil and filters, polis h ing bright work, etc. Lo a ds and unloads material and equipment for use on vehicle.
20 % Serves as Desig n ated member of the Crew in accordance with the requ i r ement of the vessel's Coast Guard Certificates of Inspection. Assumes contro l of vessel in the event the Master becomes incapacitated an d practices those duties week l y.
5% Operates emergency equipment such as firefighting hoses, fire extinguishers, rescue boats, l ife rings. Floats, during drills and in actual emergencies. Serves as lookout to assist in safe navigation and handles lines in recovery of vessels adrift. Searches for and recovers drowning victims. Attends required traini n g.
5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to emergency / disaste r support activities
