Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Fiber Test Engineering Support Technician to join the Data Center Power & Control Division Team in New London, CT.

Performs testing on a variety of fiber optic cables, connectors, and other connectivity equipment and records and analyzes results.  Records data from testing in standard formats and provides results to engineering and product teams.  Assists technical teams with recommendations to resolve testing problems, roadblocks, or equipment malfunctions that impact the performance or validity of testing.  Requires knowledge of industry specific tests (such as TIA and Telcordia) and testing equipment (IL/RL meters, force tester, endface geometry, fiber inspection, modal explorer, environmental chamber).

 

What Will You Do?

Carries out test plans following standardized testing procedures.Designs test fixtures.Organizes, stores, and evaluates data.Conducts R&D testing of existing and new product designs for both internal and external customers. Maintains continuous communications with design staff regarding test progress and results. Provides recommendations to engineering design staff for design improvements.Develops LabView code for measurement automation.Creates, maintains, and presents test reports with summaries and analysis.Troubleshoots testing methods when needed. Recommends improvements to test methods and procedures, as needed. Will possibly also write test plans.Maintains, calibrates, and repairs all lab equipment and equipment certifications.Initiates and facilitate the ECN (engineering change notice) process.Performs FAR (first article requirements) evaluation and provide detailed descriptions of any non-conformities.Utilizes, remains familiar with, and maintains agency (UL, TIA, CSA, IEC, etc.) publications and requirements.Performs other similar and related duties as required. Education:

Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent experience.

Experience:

Typically requires 1-3 years of related experience.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

Knowledge of optical fiber connectivity.Must have strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and data base software, e-mail and meeting management software. Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively. LabView and SolidWorks experience preferred.Geometric tolerancingIL/RL testing, fiber termination and polishing, fusion splicing.Test equipment: 3D printer, oscilloscopes, fiber lasers, photodiodes, multimeters.

Additional Requirements:

Requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be-able-to effectively handle multiple priorities.Must possess project management skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and manage to a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines and control a-number-of projects at various stages of work.Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be-able-to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information.Must have manual dexterity for making and removing fiber optic connectors.Must have strong scientific analytical skills and proven ability to efficiently research and summarize information in an effective manner and make recommendations based upon analysis.Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment.
