Field Agronomist, Rosthern, SK 

 

The Field Solutions Field Agronomist utilizes their skills and knowledge in applied field research and agronomy to develop innovative, effective, and sustainable crop protection solutions enabled by high quality field research.  This includes the execution of a field research trial program which generates data characterizing the performance of identified candidates for new crop protection product development.

 

The Field Solutions Field Agronomist may also be responsible for knowledge transfer, demonstration, and education of the new crop protection development to other groups within the organization.

 

Bayer is committed to a flexible hybrid working environment. This is a 12-month term position which can be a Development Assignment or a Contract position, based at the research site near Rosthern, SK.


What you will do:

Coordinates and executes a Field Solutions field research program.Accountable for the execution and timely completion of all studies assigned.Implements field program including all operations – seeding, spraying, assessments, harvest (including equipment calibration & general maintenance)Identifies suitable field research trial sites & cooperators including negotiation and execution of lease agreements. Manages assessment data in a prompt and timely manner using digital software applications and tools.Provides effective supervision, direction, and leadership to temporary contract (seasonal/summer) staff for daily operations.  May be responsible for recruitment, development, and performance management of summer associates.Provides active support and leadership of HSE and compliance activities at Field Solutions sites.Responsible for safety in handling, application, and storage of pesticidesCompletes driving and various safety training activities. Coordinates and participates in safety meetings & may assist with safety trainings.Acts as the technical champion for projects and provides technical advice to the project team and prepares and provides summaries as required to meet project objectives.Provides technical product support and training to internal colleagues as new products near registration and enter pre-launch phase.Develops and maintains an environment of professionalism and safe work practices.

 

Who you are:

B.Sc. and related experience in Agricultural Research.  M.Sc. in agricultural sciences is preferred.Applied functional knowledge of crop production agronomy, crops and crop pests in the assigned Saskatchewan region (i.e. cereals, canola, and pulses).A strong digital aptitude, experience working with data collection using software and hardware tools. Strong organizational, prioritization, planning and time management skills.Strong English communication and collaborative skills are necessary to perform the duties of the position, influence decision makers and project a positive Bayer technical image.Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential.  Possess a valid driver’s license in good standing.Relevant experience in the evaluation of crop protection technologies is a strong asset.Experience operating experimental spray equipment along with a variety of small plot field equipment (ex. tractors, seeding, sprayers, combines) is a strong asset.Experience coordinating research site activities including (Health Safety & Environment) and directing temporary/contract staff is an asset.
