Field Agronomy Research Technician
This opportunity provides key operational and technical support to Field Agronomists for execution of crop protection research trials.
Bayer is committed to a flexible hybrid working environment. This is a 12-month term position, based out of the Rosthern, Saskatchewan site.
What you will do:
Support field research program execution both on-farm (Rosthern) and off-farm
Complete and oversee field tasks including site planning, plot establishment, treatment applications, data collection and harvest of field trials to ensure adherence to research protocols and trial timelinesAssist in trial design and timely completion of all assigned data collection and studiesPrepare research plot materials including seed, chemicals and fertilizers Monitor and manage site trials including completing maintenance applications, seeding, and irrigating of trialsProvide exemplary local support for operational field safety
Develop a thorough understanding of Canadian HSE policies and procedures that have relevance to Field Solutions (FS) site operations and together with local Field Agronomy (FA) Hub team members develop effective delivery plans for the regionLead training, provide clarity of oversight for required safety behavior and collection of related safety dataEnsure safety documentation is complete and up-to-dateCoordination of site and facility maintenance
Coordinate with local Field Solutions and Environmental Affairs team to understand expectations and develop plans to deliver effective site maintenanceCoordinate all seasonal maintenance and winterization of the site yard, buildings and machinery (including irrigation)Help maintain cleanliness and orderliness of farm facilities and equipmentUnderstand and coordinate fleet vehicle requirements to address all regulationsComplete equipment maintenance and capital inventory management
Develop and manage equipment maintenance schedulesCoordinate internal and external equipment maintenance activitiesParticipate in CAPEX planning discussions pertaining to safety and efficiency improvements for all capital equipment Maintain accurate inventory of seed, chemical, PPE and Supplies required for farm and research programs
Who you are:
Undergraduate degree/diploma in agricultural science or a related field; or equivalent related experienceKnowledgeable about Western Canada’s agricultural crop production with a desire to gain experience in crop protection researchExperience and familiarity with operating small-plot and farm equipment Strong attention for detail and commitment to safety Willingness and ability to conduct manual labor including daily requirements for lifting and equipment maintenanceDemonstrated mechanical aptitude and abilityValid drivers license and willing to upgrade to heavy trailering license Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervisionDemonstrated organizational, time management, and planning skillsPreferred experience
Experience in designing, data collection, managing and conducting field research trials with a crop protection focusExperience in utilization various electronic crop research data capture and analysis tools (ARM experience preferred) or proven aptitude to learn these toolsExperience with summer student supervisionPreferred education
Undergraduate degree/diploma in agricultural science or Master’s degree
