What You’ll Do
This is a full-time position that provides technical support to blasting activities in a large Open Pit Iron Mine located in Labrador City, NL. This position involves but is not limited to the following tasks:
Analyze blasting requirements and recommend tailored solutions to optimize safety, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
Technical support to design blast plans, including charge placement, timing, and sequencing to achieved desired results.
Conduct blast performance measurements, e.g. digital high-speed video, vibration monitoring, velocity of detonation, etc..
Support Client with resolving issues related to blasting operations, including misfires, overbreaks, and vibration control.
Conduct post blast assessments, etc. fragmentation measurement, time studies, volumetric measurements, blast reporting & documentation.
Comply with applicable regulatory health and safety policies and practices to ensure personal safety and the safety of all employees, company assets, environment and regulatory compliance.
Respond professionally and timely to address problems and business requests.
Understand and follow all Company safety policies and practices.
Observe the relationship between blast pattern and type of digging and consultant client on improvement opportunities.
Understand and enhance service requirements to continually improve customer profitability.
Ensure quality of service by advising how to minimize losses related to blasting.
Train blasters/mine planners on all aspects of this position for redundancy
Assist in carrying out blast site hazard assessments to ensure the blast site is a safe work environment for all involved.
Prepare detailed technical reports, including recommendations for improvement and performance metrics.
Stay updated on the latest advancements in blasting technology, explosives, tools, and industry standards.
What We’re Looking For:
Degree or diploma in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field considered an asset.
Certification in blasting or explosives handling (as per regional requirements) considered an asset.
2-5 years’ experience considered, 5+ years preferred.
Strong understanding of blasting principles, rock mechanics, and safety regulations.
Hands-on experience in field operations related to blasting.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse teams and clients.
Ability to work in challenging environments and adapt to dynamic work conditions.
Proficiency in blasting simulation software and data analysis tools is a plus.
