Under limited supervision of the Project / Maintenance Manager, the Field Engineer – Diesel Engine Inspector (Navy certified) is responsible for conducting condition-based maintenance assessments of diesel engines and other duties listed under Responsibilities below. Exhibits superior workmanship and focuses on a quality end product. Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure all tasks are accomplished safely and with an emphasis on quality. Completes all tasks in accordance with local Safety, Environmental, and Health directives. Addresses customer concerns in a prompt professional and courteous manner. Responsibilities Major Job Activities: Conduct condition-based maintenance assessments of diesel engines. Provide technical assistance, assessments / inspections as required. Assist with equipment grooms. Observe / conduct cold / hot checks of equipment, note condition and parameters for any out of specification readings or settings. Conduct oversight of repairs being conducted to engines / equipment for technical completion and standards on-board ships or shipyards. Assist with identification of parts and material needed to return equipment back to manufacturers specifications. Provide written briefs and reports as required. Subject Matter Expert (SME) level knowledge of Caterpillar, Fairbanks Morse, Isotta Fraschini and Paxman Diesel Engines. Performs other duties as assigned. Material & Equipment Directly Used: Requires intermediate to advanced knowledge and fluency of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel). Strong analytical skills. Working Environment & Physical Activities: Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions. Subject to both environmental conditions occurring inside and outside. The worker is subject to noise and hazards to include a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices. Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma Graduate of U.S. Navy Engine person School. Certifications: Must be a Navy / Coast Guard certified Diesel Engine Inspector. Must be a Certified Master Training Specialist. Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of US Navy or U.S. Coast Guard experience with five (5) of those years being diesel engine inspection experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Willing to work overseas and work with foreign navies / coast guards. Planner / Estimator experience in development of mechanical and electrical work packages. Previous FMS experience. Prior shipboard experience Other Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Current U.S. Passport with a minimum of 1 year prior to expiration and 3 blank pages. Skills & Technology Used: Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, problem solving and interpersonal skills. Must have basic computer skills. Ability to manage multiple job sites and priorities. Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
