Field Mechanic II
Overview Responsible for maintaining the operations and appearance of MasTec Renewables equipment at the jobsite level including assessment, diagnosis, replacement, and repair. Provide subject matter expertise to Field Mechanic Is to help with more complex troubleshooting and repair of equipment on site. This is an on-site position requiring travel to jobsites 100% of the time. Responsibilities Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance on all equipment troubleshooting Conduct on-site field repairs and troubleshooting Maintain an equipment maintenance work order data base for assigned jobs Perform machine preventative maintenance services and maintain service intervals per the original equipment specifications Operate equipment to diagnose problems and inspect equipment for defects Ensure all equipment has an equipment ID (logo, unit numbers, digital photos) Perform and/or verify DOT annual inspection per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations Ensure equipment safety (i.e., backup alarms, lights, seat belts, fire extinguishers, rigging, etc.) Show expertise in all basic and complex machines, including crane safety (crane maintenance daily logbook/annual inspection, etc.) Work with Field Equipment Managers to review maintenance records and major repairs Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with dealership and factory standards Effectively communicate with Field Equipment Manager to obtain parts needed for repair Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order Test vehicles and equipment when required Identify machinery defects or malfunctions and complete repair Keep work area neat and clean Maintain tool inventory on service truck to ensure all tools are available in working order Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state and local regulations such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc. Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner Report any safety issues immediately to the Field Equipment Manager Other duties as assigned Qualifications Education and Work Experience Requirements: Certificate from college or technical school in Diesel or Automotive Technology preferred Three years relevant experience Experience with OEM and dealership procedures for repairs, maintenance, and warranty preferred One or more of the following certifications: Electrical diagnostics and repair cert, A/C system diagnostics and repair cert, Welding Certification, OEM certification (JD Tech, CAT SiS, Case IH Tech, Komatsu Tech, Ford, Kenworth, Liebherr), etc. preferred Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred Must have Medical Examiner Certification or ability to obtain Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive company equipment per company policy Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward the Company’s Zero Injury principles Ability to diagnose and repair complex problems in systems including mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical Ability to track and maintain records of completed work and update status of open work orders Ability to complete scheduled maintenance tasks including but not limited to: Wheel and tire changes, cutting edge replacement, DOT inspections and services Ability to identify and request parts and complete repairs using OEM manuals Minimum level of rework Ability to use, repair and maintain machines and tools Strong problem-solving skills Ability to work efficiently, independently and follow through on assignments Strong communication skills Proficient with computer technology such as email, phone/tablet for inspections and photos, time tracking application, digital OEM manuals Willingness to go above and beyond to assist job sites with requests Welding experience Working Environment: Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles Frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions high, precarious places, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock Noise level in the work environment is usually loud Position may be subject to pre-employment screening, which may include background check and drug testing.
