Hiring Unit: Gault Nature Reserve, Research Station, Faculty of Science

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the immediate manager, leads and coordinates a small team of field operation assistants in the operations, conservation, education, and research activities at the Gault Nature Reserve.  

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Act as a resource person, coordinate projects and resolve issues arising during work shift.Ensure that instructions and protocols are followed, including safety measures and safety equipment.Participates in environmental monitoring initiatives.Engages in conservation projects to preserve the mountain’s fauna and flora.Participates in the management of invasive plants.Carries out and plan public awareness projects (i.e., holding kiosks on research projects, guided tours).Assist in the service to visitors and academic clientele.Assists with land and plot preparation (soil tilling, rock picking, seeding, weeding, irrigation, and drainage).Patrols and monitors the trails at the Gault Nature Reserve.Performs landscaping, trail maintenance and ecological restoration which may require use of specialized equipment or vehicles.

Requirement Profile:

Enrolled in a full-time program at McGill University or newly graduate McGill studentLeadership and communication skillsBilingualism (English/French), an assetAutonomous and resourcefulnessStrong organization skills and thorough and attention to detailKnowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) to analyze and visualize spatial data is an asset.

High School DiplomaEnrolled in a full-time program at McGill University or newly graduate McGill student

Additional Information:

Job Duration: minimum 12 weeks. From May until end of AugustStarting date may vary according to availability of the candidate:Preferably from May 1st to May 15th, 2025 Work schedule may include weekends and early eveningsAccommodation can be provided by the Reserve, on demand.

Location: This position is located in Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec and the work for this position is expected to be performed in person on the site of the Gault nature Reserve.

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # 2 on a scale of 0-4

Minimum Education and Experience:

High School Diploma 2 Years Related Experience

Hourly Salary:

(AMUSE C) $19.00
