Job Description
A top-tier research organization is seeking two Environmental Scientists, Biologists, or Ecologists with an interest in avian studies to perform Post Construction Monitoring (PCM) to monitor solar fields and bird activities in relation to these solar fields. This is an excellent opportunity for scientists to support the EVS Group. The position is part-time, ideal for students or recent graduates looking to gain industry skills.
ResponsibilitiesSurvey the solar site one day per week (March - June), and again in the fall (September - November)Identify bird fatalities and mark the location with paintTake pictures and notes, and attempt to identify bird speciesKeep a log and report findings using GPS/mapping softwareCover at least 30% of the site each day of work (site is roughly six acres)Dedicate 8-10 hours per week to on-site field monitoring, and another 8-10 hours to virtual tasks listening to avian call audio filesIdentify species and confirm predictions from software including BirdNet and MerlinEssential SkillsExperience in environmental science, field survey, and ecological biologyField data collection and reportingEnvironmental monitoring and field monitoringFamiliarity with biology, biological samples, and biological indicatorsExperience with solar and post-construction monitoringAdditional Skills & QualificationsBachelor of Science in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Ornithology, or related fieldProfessional field work experience (for Crew Lead)Field work experience from an internship/education or outdoor job experience (Park District, Forestry, etc.) for AssistantPersonal interest in ornithology/avian studiesInterest in working outdoors despite inclement weatherReliable car (road of the site is gravel)Animal or avian fatality monitoring experience is a plusBiological, wetland experience on solar fields, renewable projects is a plusWork Environment
The work environment is outside on a solar field site. The town nearby has plenty of restaurants and a travel plaza/gas station that can be used for breaks and bathrooms. Candidates should be located near the area (Camila, GA) with a commute to the site of 60 miles or less. Candidates can work from home for reporting and audio file listening tasks. The work involves taking breaks throughout the day and lunch while on site.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $27.00
