How will you make an impact?
The Field Service Engineer for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific performs on-site installation, alignment and repair of sophisticated equipment and systems. Engineers validate operational quality of system equipment; advise customers in the operation and maintenance of the system; serve as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects; and conduct on-site installations of analytical instruments serving the electronics research and manufacturing industries.
The Field Service Engineer will join a diverse team with skills ranging from sophisticated computer networks, precision mechanics, high voltage electronics, vacuum theory, particle beams, optics, and chemistry.
Location Specific Information:
There is significant travel expected in this role, which will involve supporting customers in the New York region around the Hudson Valley and Albany areas.

What you will do:
Conduct on-site installations across the regionConduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits per commitments and scheduleProvide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other field service personnelCultivate and develop positive working relationships with users and colleaguesComplete technical training, as requiredTravel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problemsAdvise external customers, manufacturing and internal customers thru effective communicationPartner with colleagues as mentee and mentor to continue personal and team developmentContribute to continuous improvement efforts for Service, documentation, and product factoriesCollaborate with application scientists, technical support engineers, and customers to resolve complex customer challengesHow will you get here?
This position is ideal for an experienced service engineer wanting to be involved with a team with varied strengths and exposed to a constant variety of customer application areas.
Education
Minimum education requirement is bachelor's degree or 7+ years equivalent education and experience in electronic systemsExperience
5+ years of hands-on technical experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating sophisticated analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems is idealA detailed understanding and extensive experience diagnosing and repairing ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Ability to deal effectively with customersExcellent interpersonal skills; must have a professional working proficiency in EnglishConsistent record of fixing sophisticated systems and subsystems down to the component levelLiterate in MS DOS and Windows software environmentsAble to read and interpret schematicsFamiliar with UHV phenomenon and technologyMust have ability to acquire a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as requiredMust possess a valid driver’s licensePhysical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.Compensation and Benefits
The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in New York is $28.85–$43.27.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
