Field Service Engineer II - Electron Microscopy
**Work Schedule** Standard (Mon-Fri) **Environmental Conditions** Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.) **Job Description** **How will you make an impact?** The Field Service Engineer for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific performs on-site installation, alignment and repair of sophisticated equipment and systems. Engineers validate operational quality of system equipment; advise customers in the operation and maintenance of the system; serve as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects; and conduct on-site installations of analytical instruments serving the electronics research and manufacturing industries. The Field Service Engineer will join a diverse team with skills ranging from sophisticated computer networks, precision mechanics, high voltage electronics, vacuum theory, particle beams, optics, and chemistry. **Location Specific Information:** There is significant travel expected in this role, which will involve supporting customers in the New York region around the Hudson Valley and Albany areas. **This role invites the candidate to grow and learn in a challenging culture of shared purpose and drive!** **What you will do:** + Conduct on-site installations across the region + Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits per commitments and schedule + Provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other field service personnel + Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with users and colleagues + Complete technical training, as required + Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems + Advise external customers, manufacturing and internal customers thru effective communication + Partner with colleagues as mentee and mentor to continue personal and team development + Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for Service, documentation, and product factories + Collaborate with application scientists, technical support engineers, and customers to resolve complex customer challenges **How will you get here?** This position is ideal for an experienced service engineer wanting to be involved with a team with varied strengths and exposed to a constant variety of customer application areas. **Education** + Minimum education requirement is bachelor's degree or 7+ years equivalent education and experience in electronic systems **Experience** + 5+ years of hands-on technical experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating sophisticated analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems is ideal + A detailed understanding and extensive experience diagnosing and repairing ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems. **Knowledge, Skills, Abilities** + Ability to deal effectively with customers + Excellent interpersonal skills; must have a professional working proficiency in English + Consistent record of fixing sophisticated systems and subsystems down to the component level + Literate in MS DOS and Windows software environments + Able to read and interpret schematics + Familiar with UHV phenomenon and technology + Must have ability to acquire a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required + Must possess a valid driver’s license + Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. **Compensation and Benefits** The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in New York is $28.85–$43.27. This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
