What’s the role?

The Field Service Engineer - OPTICAL is responsible for the on-site service and repair of complex leading-edge Aerial Image Measurement Systems (AIMS) located at our customer site in Phoenix, AZ.  Majority of work is performed in a cleanroom environment.

This position follows a compressed work schedule with standard 12-hour shifts, alternating between 3 and 4 days per week. This results in a total of 84 working hours over a two-week period, with occasional overtime as needed.

Here’s what you’ll do:

Troubleshoot, repair and maintain highly complex electro-mechanical and robotic systems.

Understand theory of operation and special maintenance requirements for complex optical systems.

Read and understand complex schematics and block diagrams.

Diagnose and repair system level and board level failures.

Understand and operate complex multi-level system interface software and firmware applications.

Maintain systems to achieve the contractually obligated equipment uptime performance. 

Schedule and perform all recommended Preventative Maintenance activities. 

Actively participate in meetings with ZEISS and customer teams.  

Report all system actions/events and daily activities in field service reports. 

Communicate system and site issues to factory level support and follow-up to achieve resolution of customer’s open issues.

Build rapport and trust with the customer, through clear and accurate communication and demonstrated professionalism.

Do you qualify?

Technical degree (e.g. Bachelor of Engineering or Science) is required or >10 years relevant experience as a substitute.  Prior experience with specialty optics and optical systems is a plus.

Experience working within the semiconductor industry. 

Experience with FAB cleanroom operation and protocol. 

Experience with photomask making equipment is preferred. 

Working Conditions and Special Demands:

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for long periods, walk up and down multiple flights of stairs, and stoop, squat, kneel, twist, and lay down for equipment repair.

Manual Dexterity: Requires excellent manual dexterity for performing complex mechanical alignments and adjustments.

Certification: Willingness to qualify for HAZMAT (Hazardous Materials) certification, including SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus).

Travel: Willingness to travel, including internationally. Initial training will require 3-6 months in Germany and Taiwan. After initial training, anticipate less than 10% travel.

Cleanroom Work: Ability to work long hours inside a semiconductor cleanroom (FAB) and adhere to all customer cleanroom protocols.

Hazardous Work: Working with and around laser systems, high voltage, and potentially hazardous chemicals.

Work Schedule: 12-hour standard work shifts, alternating between 3 and 4 days per week (84 working hours per 2-week period), with additional overtime sometimes required.

Skills: Advanced math skills and the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
