OVERVIEW OF POSITION

This technician will provide field service support focused on the operation of Wabtec’s I-ETMS (Interoperable Electronic Train Management System) and overall Positive Train Control (PTC) program.  The FST will be the primary Wabtec interface at the customer site and provide on-site and remote support to customer crews, maintenance personnel and operations teams, and carry out the following primary duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Act as the primary technical interface between Wabtec business units and Customer management and crews involved in I-ETMS maintenanceDevelop product knowledge required to properly maintain, test, and troubleshoot I-ETMS systems, including interfaces to airbrake, recording and locomotive systems.Guide and assist Customer employees and craft in the testing, troubleshooting and operation of the I-ETMS systems, as requiredCommunicate technical and operational details to stakeholders in PTC systems, in both Customer and Wabtec organizationsThe FST will be located on Customer property in Houston, TXWork primarily first shift on Customer property; FST must be flexible to assist Customer at any time, by phone or on site as required, for necessary support of system troubleshooting and maintenance activities.Travel domestically, on occasion, for I-ETMS support, integration testing, training, etc., as directed by the Customer or WabtecOther duties and assignments as directed by Wabtec managementAssist Customer with development of short term action plans and long term reliability initiativesInterpret schematics and drawingsWork with a minimum amount of supervision

Perform other duties as assignedProvide technical support, as required, for other Wabtec products, such as electronic air brakes, video recording systems, event recorders, etc., as applicable

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum education, job experience, certifications, skills, knowledge and abilities that incumbent must typically have to perform the essential functions of the job acceptably with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Bachelors in Engineering, Associate’s Degree in Electronics or Computer Technology, or technical related experience or training in the industryThree years of experience with Positive Train Control, or one year of experience with I-ETMSKnowledge of locomotive operation, electronics, and control systems and/or railroad experience preferred, though not requiredExperience with pneumatic systems; field installation and testing of electronics; software installation, configuration and testing; and mechanical systems.Ability to read, interpret and explain technical documents such as engineering drawings and specifications, test procedures, and electrical schematics requiredDemonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical, electronic, software, and complex system issuesField service/field engineering experience a plusKnowledge of electrical and mechanical installation techniques and principlesKnowledge of Lean tools, principles and activities.Experience developing and improving business processesExperience and knowledge of basic statistical analysis and reliability toolsStrong verbal and written communications skills; customer facing experience preferredMust be able to work independently, in geographically dispersed locationsProficiency in MS Office software.Knowledge of programming languages such as C++, Java, Python, SQL, and Ruby a plus

Specialized equipment used in this job

Digital Volt Meters, Frequency Counters, Spectrum Analyzers and all appropriate troubleshooting general purpose equipment.Oscilloscope and protocol analyzers, as applicable

Work Conditions

Primarily first shift; must be flexible for on-call support.Domestic travel may be required.Exposure to moderately disagreeable environmental conditions.Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.Must be able to walk up the stairs of the locomotive.
