Field Service Technician

Position Overview:

The Field Service Technician is to provide comprehensive support to our deployment of commercial vehicle batteries across various locations. This role involves hands-on training, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair of high voltage batteries and subcomponents. The successful candidate will ensure excellent service delivery through effective customer interactions and support of Proterra’s manufacturing and engineering operations. You will be a part of a dynamic team focused on maintaining high service standards and continuous improvement in field operations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

Conduct hands-on repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high voltage batteries using a range of tools from advanced computer diagnostics to basic mechanical tools. Support the launch of new battery products and customer platforms, ensuring they are fully operational and meet all specifications.

Customer and Client Interaction:

Maintain excellent communication with customers and property staff, providing hands-on training to customer operators and technicians. Manage customer expectations and deliver high-quality service, enhancing customer satisfaction and service experience.

Documentation and Inventory Management:

Maintain detailed and timely documentation for all repairs, installations, and service activities. Manage field inventory of parts and tools, ensuring readiness and availability for all service tasks.

Quality Control:

Provide development input for the continuous improvement of the team’s field service software and tools. Provide feedback to the quality and engineering teams for product issues found in the field.

Other Duties:

Operate cross functionally as a backup to the remanufacturing technician as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned by management, contributing to the team’s overall success.

 

About You:

Self-starter capable of working independently with limited supervision. Customer-focused attitude with high professionalism and discretion. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization. Detail-oriented, resourceful, and diligent with excellent time management skills. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent communication skills in English.

 

Your Experience Includes:

5+ years’ experience in field service, preferably in electric vehicle, bus, automotive, or related vehicle systems. High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate degree or higher in a technical field preferred. Hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical troubleshooting. Intermediate level computer proficiency, including Microsoft Applications. ASE or other certifications are a plus.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

Willingness to work various shifts as needed, including potential for extensive travel (20% - 80% Domestic and International as needed). Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, standing, crouching, and reaching in both large and tight spaces. Work in manufacturing environments with extreme temperature conditions and exposure to irritant chemicals or gases.

Travel: 20% - 80% Domestic and International as needed
