Field Surveyor
The Survey Party Chief will plan and evaluate proposed field survey projects, manage/lead the field survey team, prepare design calculations for construction staking survey work, maintain daily survey logs while completing commercial, residential and industrial development projects based on clients intent/vision, budget, timeline, jurisdictional requirements and community needs.
The Survey Party Chief leads a field survey crew engaged in producing geodetic products and land surveys for construction, topographic maps, right-of-way exhibits, and geodetic control projects; participates in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, resident engineers, and contractor representatives; assigns and monitors work of junior survey crew members while providing input for evaluation of the field survey crew; is a subject matter expert in field survey methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct and perform daily field surveying operations in urban, rural, commercial, industrial and construction site locations both local to California and across the Western United States.
Accurate preparation & completion of complex surveying calculations, daily field notes, sketches, time sheets and other survey tasks in accordance to directions provided by clients and supervisors.
Direct and complete field surveys for boundary determination, design plans, utility locating, hydrographic maps, right-of-way cross-sections, as-builts, and other survey exhibits as directed.
Interpret and lay-out construction staking from provided calculations along with field adjustments as required to meet the demands of the client and the working environment.
Evaluate engineering design plans for construction purposes and provide concise communication to the client and management team regarding any conflicts, blunders, and other complications as needed.
Sets up, operates, and adjusts all types of survey equipment, including a digital level, total station, laser scanner, RTK GPS receivers/base, long-range radios, and other electronic measuring devices.
Conduct county research of existing survey, deed, and improvement records on-line and in-person as required to complete boundary retracements and monumentation surveys.
Organize and maintain field books, reports, maintenance data, survey equipment and company vehicles.
Take an active part in the company safety culture presenting ideas on improvement where possible along with supervision of the safety procedures for all crew members working on the site together.
Trains and assists other crew members on the correct procedures and latest technology in surveying equipment along with finding new and innovative ways of doing land surveys.
Air and/or car travel to project sites that require over-night accommodations provided by GSI.
Although most work occurs during daytime hours, some projects require night work.
