Description In this role, you will performs all clerical functions necessary to organize, maintain, and complete patient medical records. Responsibilities include retrieving, reconciling, and preparing records for the HSC scan center, reviewing and obtaining documentation for processing accounts in electronic work queues, and scanning and indexing loose material received in the HIMS department. Key Responsibilities: + Retrieve and reconcile discharged medical records from various nursing units and ancillary departments. + Prepare records for scanning and transportation to the HSC Scan Center. + Assist medical staff by pulling incomplete charts. + Clear physicians from the suspension list if they have completed their incomplete charts. + Process accounts in electronic work queues/routers as assigned. + Pull paper charts for internal and external reviewers. + Route loose filing to the HSC scan center. + Scan and index loose reports/documents as needed. + Pull and refile paper records as needed. + Maintain or exceed established productivity standards while achieving or exceeding requirements for accuracy. + Provide backup assistance to the HIM Specialist and HIM Specialist II as needed. + Recognize and report defective equipment. + Follow department policies and procedures. + Maintain confidentiality when dealing with all aspects of patients' records. + Attend all mandatory hospital-wide education annually. Salary: $21.24-$27.01 Hourly Senate Bill 525 (https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billtextclient.xhtml?bill\_id=202320240sb525) was signed into law by Governor Newsom in October 2023. Starting June 1, 2024, SB525 sets a new $23 minimum wage for nonexempt healthcare workers and raises the exempt employee salary threshold to $1,380/week (equivalent to $5,980/month or $71,760/year). 1. As defined under SB525, healthcare workers are defined as employees who are involved in the provision of 'health care services,' which means 'patient care-related services including nursing; caregiving; services provided by medical residents, interns, or fellows; technical and ancillary services; janitorial work; housekeeping; grounds keeping; guard duties; business office clerical work; food services; laundry; medical coding and billing; call center and warehouse work; scheduling; and gift shop work; but only where such services support patient care'. 2. Employees (career, contract, student, per diem) in the UCLA Health medical facilities (e.g. Ronald Reagan Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Hospital, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, etc.) meet these criteria.' Qualifications + Previous experience in Health Information Management or a related field preferred. + Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems. + Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently. + Excellent organizational and time-management skills. + Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
