Film Product Development Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Engineer to join our team at PPG Advanced Film Technologies in New Albany, Ohio. You will be based in our brand-new pilot-scale facility, where you will contribute to the development of market-disruptive coatings technologies. Our thermoplastic film technologies offer enhanced customization, lightweighting, and protective properties for automotive applications and beyond.​

As an Engineer in our Pilot Scale Manufacturing team, you will help accelerate the assessment of new formulations and simulating customer line conditions for successful product launches.

Joining our team will provide you with the opportunity to use PPG's expertise in technology development and bridge the gap between laboratory results and manufacturing excellence. You will create science and technology for PPG AST films, collaborating across new business development and combining material science, engineering, and chemistry.​

Key Responsibilities

Develop new lab and pilot line test methods to help to accelerate the assessment of new formulations and simulate customer line conditions to increase the speed and success rate of product launches​Complete projects to determine related materials properties and their applications. Thermomechanical materials properties and interfaces ​Develop pilot line capabilities and establish formulation-property-process relationships to establish performance capabilities based on chemistry and materials science​Develop pilot trials and scale up to the production team​Contribute ideas for new films systems and thermoforming application processes.​Work toward technical milestones. ​Work safely, following all lab procedures and contribute to the maintenance of high safety standards.

Qualifications

Production of polymers experience is requiredBS/MS degree in a technical field such as Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, and Chemistry are required, along with 5+ years of relevant work experience in coatings.​Or Ph.D. with 3 years ​of experienceExperienced in engineering within pilot-scale or manufacturing-scale environments, specifically in extrusion, thermoplastics, or thermoforming. ​Proficient in operating and troubleshooting industrial manufacturing pilot-scale equipment, demonstrating a strong mechanical aptitude, and experienced in specifying new manufacturing and testing equipment to improve production processes and ensure efficient operations.​Experience with experimental design (DOE).Cross-cultural and functional communication skills, an understanding of materials science and a desire to work in a global environment.Travel will be
