Position Description
The Finance Administrator performs professional and administrative duties involved in supervising and participating in planning, organizing and budgeting activities for the department. The incumbent will perform other related duties as required.
Metropolitan Social Services (MSS), a department of Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, focuses on topics and issues continually effecting the economic and social wellbeing of Nashvillians. National and local policy choices have resulted in a deterioration of standard of living and put more people into poverty. Poverty can be multidimensional and result from long-term processes of inequality, persistent exclusion, concentration of economic power, access to wealth-building and social capital, as well as broad transformations in work and society.
Typical Duties
+ Develops the Department’s annual budget and monitor on monthly basis.
+ Trains division personnel in budget preparation, management, and reporting.
+ Analyzes ledger balances, process payments, track information, prepare and complete journal entries as necessary.
+ Manages grant funds including preparation & modification of contracts and budgets, preparation & supervision of departmental monthly reimbursement requests.
+ Coordinates & manage 4% reserve requests, purchases, preparation & tracking of purchases.
+ Develops & track of capital improvements budget.
+ Manages fixed assets information.
+ Oversees & participate in the preparation of statistical & financial reports.
+ Performs more complex types of financial & statistical analysis as required.
+ Assists in the development of short and long-term goals
+ Monitors the progress of the Finance Program in meeting goals.
+ Evaluates the efficiency and cost effectiveness of goals
+ Supervises staff in MSS business office, evaluating performance, approving leave, counseling and correcting behavior as needed.
+ Participates in program planning for department if needed.
+ Represents agency at meetings of local, state, and federal officials
+ Works on special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and Three (3) years experience in an administrative, financial, technical, or related field.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Experience working in a government or social work setting
+ Experience monitoring and/or auditing grants
+ CPA Certification
