How You Fit In

The Controller is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring the integrity of financial records, and preparing accurate financial statements. This role involves overseeing the accounting team, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. As a Finance Controller, you will:

Assist the SVP Finance  with building out the company’s Accounting department over the next 1 to 3 years. 

Think both short-term and long-term with regards to outsourcing vs staffing.

Oversee and coordinate all operational accounting functions including A/R, A/P, invoicing, collections, journal entries, maintaining the chart of accounts and accurate expense mapping.

Own the P&L and Balance Sheet cleanliness including department expense mapping, expense accrual entries, revenue recognition/ Deferred revenue, prepaid expenses, tax estimates and bonus/commissions  accruals.

Coordinate month-end close process. Prepare and present monthly financial reporting for key stakeholders.

Establish and maintain a strong internal controls environment, especially over financial reporting.

Act as a lead point of contact for external auditors and facilitates smooth annual financial statement reviews or audits.

Prepare various technical accounting memos and financial statements for the audit.

Stay up to date with the latest accounting guidance/requirements and ensure compliance with those.

Evaluate current systems and offer recommendations for improvements.

Implements new processes or systems when needed to ensure the financial infrastructure / function scales with the business.

Manage and refine company expense policies identifying ways to manage and track company costs effectively.

Own contract management and vendor negotiations.

Manage banking transactions (deposits/ACH transfers/refunds/autopay/wires)

Coordinates all outsourced tax support and ensures tax compliance for parents and subsidiaries.

Work closely with FP&A team for external reporting

Assist with tracking performance against annual company budgets and forecasts.

Assist with Stock Compensation expense and Cap Table management.

 

Skills and Qualifications

Preferred 

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field

CPA certification

Experience in accounting system implementation 

Experience with sales tax, GST/VAT 

Experience transitioning accounting functions from external/outsourced vendors to in-house is a plus.

Required

Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive accounting experience

At least 3-5 years experience in a supervisory role with function wide leadership and oversight. 

You have the ability to develop and lead a high-performing accounting team.

Proficiency in account software (QuickBooks, Netsuite)

Advanced knowledge of Excel and financial analysis.

High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting; you have experience reporting to executive leadership and presenting analysis of monthly financials.

Deep knowledge of ASC 606 and ability to accurately recognize revenue following it based on contract terms. 

Familiarity with stock-based compensation as well as various accounting guidances needed to prepare audited GAAP financials.

Effective communication skills to interact with all levels of the organization; you are a confident communicator with the ability to influence senior executives and leaders across the organization.

Experience in working with international subsidiaries.

Strong financial acumen and analytical mindset.

Ability to align with executives on key strategies and support these initiatives through cost analysis, risk analysis, ROI analysis and financing.

Must be comfortable working in a  start-up environment with the ability to juggle multiple projects, requests, and priorities at the same time.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $130,000-$160,000.

In accordance with the California Equal Pay and Pay Transparency laws , the approximate annual base compensation range is listed above. The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be determined by a number of factors including the applicant's location, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity among our team.

This is a remote role with 10% travel
