Job Description

The Finance Manager oversees the financial planning and analysis for AbbVie's R&D External Portfolio, managing $2 billion in expenses. This role ensures compliance with financial policies, prepares required deliverables for R&D HQ FP&A, and drives process improvements using tools such as BPC, Workiva, and Power BI. Key responsibilities include leading financial cycles like Flash, LBEs, Plans, and LRPs, while collaborating with stakeholders to provide strategic financial guidance and enhance decision-making. This role requires expertise in financial management, process optimization, and effective communication. 

Key Responsibilities Include: 

Responsible for the consolidation/reporting for Total R&D External Portfolio expense totaling $2 Billion for LBEs/Plan/LRP/Flash/ Monthly executive R&D Leadership Heatmap. 

Responsible for managing the R&D Externals Power BI Dashboard used by 100+ active users. Which includes building new visuals to help drive more effective analytics and insights. 

Business Partnering with R&D Business including (PPM, Portfolio Insights, CDIT, and ACPRU). 

Oversees the R&D finance external calendar to maintain timely monthly deliverables. 

Oversees the month end Ross Accounting process and Sox Controls Compliance for R&D.  

Work cross functionally to gather information on Clinical Studies both to ensure the accuracy of the data and understand variance causals for the various cycles. 

Supports ad hoc analysis and projects as assigned. 

Problem Solving: 

Strong organizational, systems, analytical, problem solving, planning and decision-making skills.  Be detail-oriented, thorough, and accountable for work product prepared and presented. 

Ability to look at processes, identify improvements and work cross-functionally to implement such improvements. 

The ability to manage and coordinate multiple activities and shifting priorities under tight timeframes. 

A highly motivated self-starter who can translate broad directions into high quality analytical output. 


Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting. CPA or MBA a plus. 

Minimum 7+ years of progressive and related experience. 

Strong financial, analytical and problem solving skills. 

Self-starter with ability to operate independently, drive processes, identify and implement process improvements, establish, and adjust priorities to achieve objectives and operate with speed and agility. 

Strong communication skills (verbal and written), with all levels of management and including the ability to listen well and to influence others that do not report directly. 

Proficient Excel skills. 

Strong system skills and willingness to learn new systems (e g. SAP, BPC, Workiva, Power BI, Power Automate, Power Query)
