Business Case

The healthcare sector is currently under significant strain due to an ageing population, a shortage of qualified staff and intense financial pressures. The pharmaceutical industry faces heightened complexity and market challenges. To alleviate some of these pressures, the government is promoting multiple strategic initiatives such as public-private partnerships, hospital-at-home programs, equal access and system efficiencies. There are also discussions around “value-based procurement” and investment in innovation to lessen the impact on patients and the system. Despite these discussions, present procurement practices are still primarily cost-driven rather than value-focused.

Based on the trends highlighted above and your understanding of the market

What do you see as the biggest financial risks and opportunities to the Pharma business based on the trends and market dynamics mentioned above?

Present one concrete proposal on how Roche can minimize the financial impact of the risks.
