Job Summary

The role is accountable for WAM Asia - AUM & Revenue and MANGA, SAGA & GA team within the Global Wealth Asset Management and General Accounts Finance (GWAM & GA Finance) within Manulife Business Processing Services (“MBPS”) and for the maintenance of trust with our customers.

MBPS is officially registered as Manulife Data Services, Inc. but with an official trade name of Manulife Business Processing Services. MBPS is a Global Shared Service Centre providing Operations Administration, Finance & Investments, Contact Center, Claims, New Business and Underwriting, Actuarial, Legal & Compliance and Digital Information Services to Manulife Companies around the world. MBPS is headquartered in Quezon City, Philippines. MBPS has approximately 4,600+ employees across Manila, Cebu, and Chengdu (China).

We are a Global Shared Service Center for Investments and Finance consisting of highly motivated and experienced professionals committed to excellence in customer service. Our customers include Business Units across the group in Investment Division and/or Finance Functions. MBPS Investment and Finance has approximately 420+ FTEs across Manila and Cebu.

Manulife's Investment Division manages the Company's General Fund on-balance sheet assets and through Manulife Asset Management, manages assets for institutional clients and investment funds in key markets around the world. Manulife Asset Management also provides investment management services to affiliates' retail clients through product offerings of Manulife and John Hancock. The Division manages a broad range of investments including public and private bonds, public and private equities, mortgages, real estate, oil and gas, infrastructure, timberland, farmland and asset allocation strategies. The Division has physical presence in key international financial centers, including the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, the United Kingdom, and throughout South East Asia.

Role and Responsibilities

Reporting directly to Manager for MBPS GWAM & GA Finance – WAM Asia, the Team Leader is primarily accountable to provide oversight and direction for the WAM Asia - AUM & Revenue and MANGA, SAGA & GA operations and reporting through timely and accurate service delivery and onshore stakeholder relationships and governance. Performs review functions and adhoc requests.

•    FINANCE

– Provides on the ground supervision of staff and review of deliverables including financial reports and analysis and accounting operations, among others.
Ø    Subject matters expertise on related areas to appropriately understand team tasks/processes, provide effective supervision and effective first level review
Ø    Lead team to adhere to high quality financial reporting and analytics providing business insights
Ø    Responsible for ensuring that all monthly closing activities of the business are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Ø    Responsible for providing meaningful insights to enable onshore contacts to drive delivery of business requirements.
Ø    Responsible for integrity and accuracy of financial operations and reporting
Ø    Responsible for the delivery of accurate reports as may be required by the stakeholders 
Ø    Strengthen financial controls and improve reporting templates
Ø    Manage the operations of the MBPS WAM Asia team – ensures efficient and effective performance of onshore processes, execution of first level review, issues management and escalation

•    REPORTING 

Ø    Maintain effective governance and communication to all levels of onshore management through recurring governance reporting, and ad-hoc presentations to leadership team and key stakeholders

•    RESOURCE MANAGEMENT 

Ø    Ensures team has the subject matter expertise through effective supervision and by providing training on the ground
Ø    Strategize team to ensure progression of staff and providing sound succession plan
Ø    Source right talent through timely and effective hiring on as needed basis
Ø    Optimizing resource utilization:  ensuring that required resources are available as needed, existing resources are productive, level of headcount and skills available are aligned with business requirements


•    OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

Ø    Manage the teams’ day to day operations promoting efficiency and team effectiveness.  Allocate and delegate tasks to team members effectively.
Ø    Champions own team through effective application of governance processes including reporting, escalation, utilization analysis
Ø    Ensure the delivery of excellent customer service by proactively promoting client centricity.  
Ø    Act as the project manager who will oversee the planning, implementation and tracking of any process migration or  streamlining and automation projects 
Ø    Take the lead role in resolving critical issues raised during operations and proactively manage and monitor control efficiency to ensure potential risk is minimized
Ø    Support ad-hoc analysis to identify root cause of production problems and develop timely solutions
Ø    Effectively communicate significant production updates and challenges to management as well as to the business unit in a timely manner

•    LEADERSHIP / MANAGEMENT

Ø    Drive the team in achieving its organizational goals and objectives. 
Ø    Consult with MBPS management and key stakeholders on business planning, direction, and identification of opportunities for team growth and development
Ø    Perform the People Manager role for the performance management, professional growth and development of staff which includes feedback sessions, productivity tracking, coaching, one to one meetings and regular employee reviews. 
Ø    Lead and ensure sustainable activities and programs to keep positive and high engagement level from the team.
Ø    Lead the regular business reviews and produce dashboard and metrics reports detailing the team’s performance (productivity, utilization, and attendance), challenges and areas for improvement.
Ø    Ensure that all Service Level Agreements and MBPS and Business Unit compliance standards are met at all times
Ø    Improve team effectiveness by implementing, monitoring and reviewing training policies and guidelines
Ø    Perform managerial duties such as hiring, attendance/incentives management, billing, and overall coordination with the support departments such as HR, Finance and IT

•    SPECIAL PROJECTS

Special projects will arise from time to time that will require strong financial knowledge, strong analytical and organizational skills with an innovative mindset. The role will be responsible for handling projects as required by the management pertaining to the introduction of new services, products and processes designed.
    

Qualifications

University Business Degree;Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CA or equivalent);A minimum of 5 years of related business experienceWith strong leadership experienceStrong knowledge of IFRS;Strong attention to detail and aptitude to learnAbility to multi-task, effectively prioritize, work under tight timelines and manage multiple stakeholders;Well organized and with high level of energy and initiative to perform in a fast paced and challenging environmentExcellent verbal and written communication skills with high degree of confidence.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently and establish priorities to meet deadlinesAdvanced level of proficiency in MS Excel and other MS office tools (e.g. Word and PowerPoint to develop reports, documents and presentations)Strong project management skills
