FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATOR, Haystack Observatory, to perform a wide range of accounting and financial functions as part of Haystack’s fiscal team; work closely with principal investigators (PIs), researchers, and staff; interact with MIT offices including Research Administration Services, Payroll, Procurement, and the Office of the Vice President for Research as well as outside vendors, sponsors, funding agencies, and counterparts at other universities and laboratories; approve travel reports, purchase requisitions, invoices, requests for payment, and credit card transactions; perform monthly salary adjustments for both trades and salaried staff; oversee subaward administration and monitoring; update the projection tool for all PIs, which involves downloading monthly financial information for each PI and reviewing charges and account balances compared to the budgets and verifying forecasted personnel effort is accurate; enter new awards and actions (i.e., create child accounts, extend dates, distribute funds, etc.); track capital equipment purchases and provide reports to fiscal officers, facilities manager, and IT manager; maintain capital equipment wish list and updating as necessary; handle monthly financial reporting to sponsors per award requirements; generate LLSC graphs and statements; complete proposals; and may provide input for capital equipment budgeting and planning and performing other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum of two years of experience or a total of six years of experience in accounting/finance; solid PC computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Excel and Word; excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills; and possess analysis and organizational skills in order to effectively handle multiple tasks and changing priorities.
