Position Summary: The Financial Counselor(s) are responsible to ensure patients scheduled for services complete the financial clearance process prior to service. Estimating cost of services to include defining expected out of pocket expense. Contacting or meeting with patient to review estimate, collection of payment, providing payment options including guidelines and assistance with completion free care applications. Communicating and collaborating with the financial clearance team department and physician practices.
Essential Duties:
The Patient Financial Counselor(s) are responsible to identify patient responsibility and work with patients in advance of scheduled service. This includes obtaining payment, payment plan assistance with or completing the free care application process. The Financial Counselor(s) are responsible to provide the appropriate information including forms and information needed to ensure the patient has the information needed to complete the free care process. The Financial Counselor is responsible to coordinate time to meet with the patient/family in areas of the hospital campuses. Financial Counselor(s) are responsible to ensure financial clearance processes are complete within 24-48 hours of receipt of task. Financial Counselor(s) are responsible to accurately document and report completion of process following the standard work in Financial Clearance. Financial Counselor(s) are responsible to engage management when issues or concerns result in failure to meet deadlines or financial payment expectations. The Financial Counselor(s) role is to enhance customer satisfaction by eliminating financial concerns while meeting financial goals of the organization. Financial Counseling will include responsibility as Certified Health Care Navigators to assist self-pay to health plan options.
Education and Experience:
High School graduate
Minimum of three years relevant with financial assistance and insurance plans
Must complete the Certified Navigation Application within 2 years of hire
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong computer skills including navigating various websites, and applications
Microsoft Office
Knowledge of insurance billing, and basic collections laws
Effective communication both verbal and written
Ability to work collaboratively
Candidate will continue to meet and complete ongoing training enhancing skills needed in this position
