Financial Aid Advisor - Veteran Services
Requisition Number: 2024069P Job Type: Full Time Job Category: Professional/Staff Job Description Summary: Serves as an assigned advisor within the Financial Aid office, Veteran’s educational benefits office. To assist in the administration of need-based financial aid programs at Blinn College. To provide direct service to students, their families, interested third parties and college employees in regard to financial aid applications, eligibility and awards. Essential Duties : Provides veteran educational information and services. Provides financial aid advising services. Advises students and other interested parties on how to apply for veteran’s educational benefits and financial aid. Answers questions about how to complete verification requirements. Makes presentations to parent and student groups on and off campus regarding veteran educational benefits and Financial Aid. Advises and evaluates eligibility and places awards on the student record according to Veteran’s Affairs, DOD , federal, state and college regulations and guidelines. Maintains information on Veteran’s Affairs, DOD , federal and state rules and regulations governing the aid programs to assure compliance and advise the Admissions, Records Office and Business Office regarding these regulations. Completes reports and forms. Assists in disbursing grants, scholarship and loan funds. Calculates refunds as outlined by Federal Regulations. Assists in professional judgment decisions. Assists in updating forms, informational brochures and the veteran web site. Performs other related tasks as assigned. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to travel to all Blinn College locations and to required and/or necessary software, state and federal training updates. Computer literate; ability to learn and operate required financial aid software packages. Strong analytical and organization skills combined with careful attention to detail. Ability to work in a stressful environment. Self-motivated and goal oriented, team player. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to handle numerous complex and routine tasks simultaneously. Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and complex long- and short-range concurrent planning. Strong commitment to quality customer service and to the Veteran. Experience utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel. Bachelor’s degree, preferably a major in business or finance. Ability to work overtime during peak activity periods. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of college records and student information. Preferred Qualifications: A veteran of the U.S. armed service. Experience with Ellucian Banner software. Financial Aid Experience. Training and experience in crisis intervention related to current needs of discharged veterans. Salary Range: $37,440 + experience Campus: Bryan
