The Financial Analyst assists in the preparation, coordination, review and analysis of the financial activities for the assigned division(s)/department(s) in an efficient and accurate manner. This includes the development of forecasts, budgets and process workflow of documents for authorization. Moreover, the incumbent assists management in the decision-making process and strategic planning by presenting relevant financial reports in a clear, concise, and timely manner.
Core Job Description:
Conducts financial and planning analyses as assigned by management. Designs and builds revenue and cost models that summarize several different scenarios around growth and expansion initiatives. Monitors, reviews and reports progress on departmental budgets and forecasts during the budget cycle for completeness and accuracy in accounting allocations and highlighting departments deviating from agreed targets. Assists with the preparation of updated financial projections on a monthly, quarterly or half-year basis. Performs variance and historical analysis and produces trending and predictive numerical and graphical information. Initiates actions to resolve any financial reporting errors. Creates ad-hoc reports as needed by departmental administrators and management. Collects, interprets and analyzes relevant data or metrics. May develop and maintain reports to support plans, business decisions, operational changes, strategic plans and new services. Resolves any reporting issues. Makes recommendations to align policies and procedures with best practices and capitalize on financial opportunities. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions
The Financial Analyst examines the financial status of the organization by collecting, monitoring, and studying data, and develops projections, reports, and presentations to assist senior managing staff in their financial decision-making process. Moreover, the incumbent establishes and enforces policies and procedures that further the department’s financial goals and objectives.
This role in the Miller School of Medicine (MSOM) is expected to provide analytical support. Additionally, it is expected that the role will sometimes act as a liaison and representative to the various Departments of the School of Medicine to address concerns or questions that may arise. The role will be expected to develop and maintain an understanding of the education, research, and gift activities that occur within MSOM. The role requires the ability to operate independently and possess the ability to evaluate situations critically. The role is expected to perform additional duties as required. This role reports to the Director of Finance within the Medical Finance - MSOM Finance team.

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
