You Are:

As Financial Controller you will be responsible for managing all accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance with local and international regulations for one of our clients in Costa Rica. This role requires excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with both local and international stakeholders.

 

The opportunity:

·       The Financial Controller will be responsible, but not limited to:

•                 Oversee all financial operations, including accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, and cash flow management.

•                 Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and forecasts for the subsidiary, ensuring compliance with both local and US GAAP standards.

•                 Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.

•                 Ensure compliance with local tax regulations, statutory reporting requirements, and internal control policies.

•                 Liaise with external auditors to facilitate audits and maintain compliance with US parent company policies.

•                 Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and foreign currency transactions effectively to optimize liquidity and minimize financial risk.

•                 Collaborate with a third-party payroll provider to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for Costa Rican employees.

•                 Review and approve payroll reports, ensuring compliance with local labor laws, tax regulations, and company policies.

•                 Address any payroll-related issues or discrepancies promptly and communicate with employees regarding payroll inquiries or changes.

•                 Work closely with a third-party accounting firm to coordinate and oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns, including income tax and value-added tax (VAT), ensuring compliance with Costa Rican tax regulations.

•                 Collaborate on the preparation of the Annual PROCOMER Report, which includes information on the subsidiary's operations, exports, and imports.

•                 Facilitate the submission of Annual Education and Culture Stamp Tax payments, ensuring timely and accurate compliance with local requirements.

 

This position description identifies the responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the performance of the position. Other relevant essential functions may be required.

 

What you need:

·       The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.

·       Minimum of 5 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including at least 2 years in the following areas:

•                 Managerial or supervisory role.

•                 Costa Rican accounting and tax regulations.

•                 Financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes.

•                 Managing audits and ensuring compliance with internal control policies.

•                 Financial software and ERP systems (SAP preferred).

•                 MS Excel.

•                 Communicating financial information clearly and concisely to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

·       Fluency in English and Spanish, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.

·       Nice to have:

·       A master's degree and/or professional certification.

·       US GAAP and experience working with US parent companies.
