Job Description

Serves as primary contact to educate family and community about financial assistance and charity care programs, health insurance exchange, or alternate insurance programs as appropriate. Conducts all interactions in a manner that will result in a positive patient experience and appropriate reimbursement for services. Works in partnership with other team members to provide quality service to proactively support efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Experience

Experience in social services or public assistance programs, including personal contact with clients

Preferred Qualifications

College degreeExperience in healthcare financial counselingFluency in Spanish or other foreign languageExperience in social services or public assistance programs, including personal contact with clientsCertified Patient Account Representative (CPAR), Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or Certified Financial Counselor (CFC)

Education

High school diploma or GED and any state-specific training and examination requirements

Job Responsibilities

Interviews patients and/or family members to secure information concerning insurance coverage, eligibility, and qualification for various financial assistance programs and/or arranges payment plans.Educates, screens, and assists patient/family to obtain insurance coverage through enrollment in programs, including Medicaid, Medicare, and other state-based assistance programs.Requests patient payments as necessary and identifies third-party liability accounts for hospital lien filing.Obtains eligibility for medical evaluations and procedures.Determines eligibility of patients under Children’s Financial Assistance Program.Monitors work queues daily to complete appropriate follow-up procedures with responsible parties and include reasons of denial, dates of eligibility, and other appropriate information.Identifies and maintains list of available programs of financial sponsorship of healthcare services and eligibility requirements for each program.Applies excellent verbal and non-verbal communicative skills to identify and reduce anxieties/concerns of patients and/or families/friends.Interacts effectively with medical staff, other departmental employees, and other hospital personnel.Maintains confidentiality of patient information.Self-motivates, multitasks, and prioritizes effectively in a fast-paced environment.
