Financial Counselor (FT- 1 FTE, Day Shift, Hybrid Eligible)

This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) following successful completion of onsite training and onboarding. The onsite training will span 15 days and will be scheduled immediately after the hire date is confirmed. Eligible applicants must reside within commuting distance of Bozeman Health’s main campus.
Position Summary:
Financially assess patients, determine ability to pay, collect deposits and negotiate payment arrangements. Additionally, provides information regarding the facility’s payment requirements, alternative financing, and charity care programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required
+ High School Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred
+ Previous ICD9 and CPT coding
+ Previous experience in healthcare billing
+ Previous financial planning/counseling or collection experience
Essential Job Functions:
In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.
+ Verifies eligibility and benefit information on inpatient and scheduled outpatient services before services are performed
+ Documents benefit information and estimated patient out-of-pocket expense.
+ Prepares written out-of-pocket estimates and discusses them with patients/family.
+ Provides potential patients with estimates of charges on specific procedures based on historical charge data.
+ Prepares written payment agreements signed by the patient/guarantor in accordance with BDH Credit Policy.
+ Evaluates patient financial status and makes recommendations to Credit Supervisor or Business Office Manager for charity care.
+ Works with patient/family to explore all alternative funding sources.
+ Collects deposits in accordance with BDH Financial and Credit policies, and as negotiated with the patient.
+ Communicates a potential client to the MASH program when appropriate.
+ Performs third party and self-pay follow-up as required.
+ Advises Credit Supervisor of potential problem accounts in a timely manner.
+ Notifies insurance billers of billing errors.

Schedule Requirements
+ This role requires regular and sustained attendance.
+ The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
+ On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs.

Infectious diseases due to contact with patients in areas that may have contagious illnesses.
