As a Financial Specialist at Cayuga Medical Center, you are responsible for reviewing scheduled appointments, planned surgeries, and planned admissions to ensure all aspects of the authorization process are met. This role involves verifying insurance accuracy for billing, initiating authorizations, conducting follow-ups, and documenting pertinent information in the appropriate systems to ensure patients are financially cleared for their scheduled medical procedures and treatments. The position requires strong communication and coordination with clinics, physicians, insurance companies, department administrators, and other staff to enhance the patient experience.\n

Roles and Responsibilities:\n\nInitiate prior authorizations, verify insurance coverage, and perform follow-ups with insurance companies to obtain approval.\nAccurately document patient and financial information in registration systems while adhering to financial policies and processes.\nAssist uninsured patients in identifying alternative payment sources, collecting payments, and establishing payment plans.\nProvide cost estimates to patients, ensuring financial responsibility is communicated before scheduled appointments.\nMaintain compliance with federal, state, and hospital regulations while meeting quality, productivity, and customer service goals.\n\n

Required Skills and Experience:\n\nAssociate's degree and two (2) years of relevant experience OR a high school diploma (or equivalent) with four (4) years of relevant experience in a hospital setting.\nTwo (2) years of healthcare experience working for a health plan, physician practice, surgery center, or hospital in a business capacity.\nProficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and multiple payer portals.\nMinimum of one (1) year experience obtaining authorizations with a healthcare provider or insurance company.\nStrong understanding of medical terminology, including CPT and diagnosis codes.\nKnowledge of insurance verification and authorization processes.\n\n

Preferred Skills and Experience:\n\nExperience in revenue cycle management and financial clearance in a healthcare setting preferred.\nAdditional training in medical billing and coding preferred.\n\n

Physical Requirements:\n\nFrequent use of hands and fingers for data entry and computer use.\nAbility to perform repetitive tasks with dexterity.\nVisual acuity to read screens, documents, and reports.\nAbility to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.\nReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.\n\n
