The finishing tech prepares all materials and parts for the necessary operations (weld, grind/polish, deburr, and media blast). Uses grinders, pneumatic sanding tools, saws, and welding machines from time to time. Performs a variety of tasks in the fabricating department. 

Abrade surfaces of metal to remove any scale, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt. Be responsible for prepping work surfaces with masking film, tape, and rubber. Read and interpret blueprints and work orders Shovel or pour abrasives into machine hopper or reclaimer. Perform safe loading of parts on racks, pallets, or mats inside the blast booth. Turn valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through the nozzle. Examine finished pieces for proper conformance to specifications. Perform daily checks and housekeeping of blast booth and corresponding work area. Operate a forklift safely Other duties as assigned by team lead or department manager

 

Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma / Equivalency preferred

Experience: 2-year experience in metal fabrication preferred

 

Core Competencies:

Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints, tape measure

Basic ability to use computer systems

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to convey information and ideas.

 

Other:

Travel not usually required but may on occasion. Must have flexible schedule including some weekends.

 

Physical and Environmental Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate.  The employee is required to wear special PPE including a helmet with compressed air when bead blasting. The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, kneel and crawl. The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach and grasp with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.  Work environment includes manufacturing. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
