Fire Alarm Technician

Job Overview:

The Full Time Fire Alarm System Mechanic inspects, tests, maintains, and repairs installed fire alarm detection and suppression systems in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and National Fire Protection Association standards, inspects fire alarm equipment visually and replaces defective components, tests initiating and signal circuits, detectors, and system transmitter, makes needed repairs, and checks pressure gauges on suppression system storage containers. Working from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications, locating and diagnosing trouble using a variety of hand tools and measuring and testing instruments. Needs to be able to repair emergency and exit lighting and have a strong mechanical aptitude.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

inspects, tests, maintains, and repairs installed fire alarm detection and suppression systems. Performs Preventative Maintenance on Detection systems, Fire Pumps, and Emergency and exit lighting. Responds to service calls. Resolves troubles in detection systems. Will be required to rotate on schedule  after hours. And other duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

 High school diploma or equivalent Strong analytical skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner. Must be able to work with others. Working knowledge of meters and hand tools. A Fire Alarm Certification and/or Alabama Journeyman's License. Must have a valid Alabama driver's license Must be able to pass a preemployment 4 years of experience in installation and /or maintenance of fire alarm detection systems, hold a NICET certification or equivalent and or an electrical journeyman license. Must be able to troubleshoot and determine the equipment and material needed for repairs. Will need to have good verbal and written skills and the ability to work with others.
