Your work environment at EXP
EXP is currently searching for a Fire Protection Engineer for our MidAtlantic Sector, based in our Washington, DC office, while also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid model that includes engineering, design, and specification of fire protection systems for our governmental, education, commercial, entertainment market sectors.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
Revit and CAD proficient with fire protection drawings Develop sections & riser diagrams and elevations of complex equipment and piping areas Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases Determines content of drawings and specs in order to meet and match the scope of work Edit specifications to reflect the project requirements Select and schedule equipment with limited oversight Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application Critically evaluate contractor pricing and cost estimates Maintain the Engineering Book for the project Respond to RFI’s for the project, and accurately review submittals Understand work planning and manage design process to the available hours in work plan on multiple projects Work with team, project manager and clients to meet scheduled project milestones of multiple projects Solve installation problems with fire protection systems, travel to the site to resolve issues Performs site surveys independently Code research to comply with various local codes, and meet with code officials Thorough understanding of many NFPA code sections, IBC, ASHRE, ASME and OSHA, and variations from year to year Write new specification sections; develop new details, as required for project needs. Apply risk management procedures daily to minimize exp’s and client’s exposure to problems Edits and develops scope of work narratives (SD narrative, basis of design, etc.) Writes studies and reports for fire protection systems on various projects. Fire Pump – select pump and accessories for proper pressures, flows, etc. and layout enlarged fire pump room without assistance Flow Test – ability to direct water flow tests at hydrant or hose connection Understand and apply gas suppression, deluge, pre-action systems, and high-rise design Basic knowledge of Factory Mutual standards and requirements Analyzing fire hazards and mitigating fire damage by proper design Construction coordination/arrangements Familiar with building structures, materials, Experience with fire modeling and simulation software Strong management and organization skills Experience in conducting existing fire protection system and risk assessments Experience in wet pipe systems per NFPA 13, NFPA 14.The pay range for this role is $115,00 to $150,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
