fire protection program leader
Job Description SummaryProvides technical leadership of the Fire Protection Program functions in support of nuclear fuel cycle and radioactive material facility operations. This role is responsible for FP programs on the Wilmington site covering GEH and GNF operations, as well as providing support for FP programs at the GEH Morris site. The position will report to the GEH Emergency Preparedness and Fire Protection Program Manager and may act in the GNF-A license position for Fire Protection.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this role include the following:

Implement requirements of Fire Protection Program Plans for multi-licensed (NRC/NC, IL) sites, incorporating NRC and state regulations, orders, advisories, company policies; plus, other policies and insurance requirements from authorities having jurisdiction.Manage contract and other key personnel supporting fire protection programs/functions.Develop and maintain Fire protection Program procedures and processes to ensure combustible control, hot work, fire suppression and fire alarm systems and programs meet applicable code and compliance requirements.Develop and maintain Fire Hazards Analyses, provide fire protection input to integrated safety analysis and configuration management changes, plus perform surveillances to ensure Items Relied on For Safety for licensed facility structures, systems, components and programs meet requirements.Serve as key resource for fire protection and life safety programs; ensure facility compliance with NFPA and related codes and guidance.Serve on the emergency response organization.Provide oversight for inspection, testing maintenance and impairments of site fire protection systems and equipment.Provide project management support for modifications directly or indirectly related to fire protection equipment.Act as liaison for fire protection training, drills and program inspections by authorities having jurisdiction.Assist in licensing activities related to emergency preparedness / fire protection.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering discipline.Minimum of 5 years of experience developing effective fire protection programs including training / procedures / surveillances / analyses / inspections for a regulated facility.

OR

Associates Degree/High School Diploma.Minimum 15 years of experience supporting fire protection programs including training / procedures / surveillances / analyses / inspections for a regulated facility.

Eligibility Qualifications:

For Controlled Access Area: must be able to successfully pass a Nuclear Safety Training Test; follow strict radiation protection, criticality, and industrial safety regulations; wear protective clothing to enter the area.The work location for this opportunity is at the GE Hitachi Nuclear headquarters in Wilmington NC.This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to U.S. export-controlled technology.  GE will require proof of U.S. person status prior to employment.Ability to walk up and down stairs.

Desired Characteristics

Master’s degree in science or engineering discipline, or degree in Fire Protection Engineering.Experience in technical operational safety roles at NRC regulated fuel cycle facilities licensed under 10 CFR 70.Able to effectively interface with offsite mutual aid agencies, regulators and other authorities having jurisdiction in a NRC & state regulated license capacity.Ability to effectively communicate complex technical issues and information throughout all levels of the organization and to nuclear regulators.Demonstrated ability to function calmly and effectively in high-stress situations, including response to site emergencies.Ability to make decisions with speed and accuracy based on best available information.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interface at all levels of the organization.Ability to evaluate the external impact of business activities and decisions on potential customers, market / industry, media, government and communities.Ability to manage multiple aspects of fire protection programs while supporting business interests.Ability to interface effectively with operational and regulatory authorities in a matrix organization.Significant experience with fire protection and emergency preparedness programs at a NRC licensed nuclear facility.Familiarity with NFPA, ANI, FM Global and fire protection/life-safety codes & guidance.Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, ability to guide others effectively.Shares technical expertise across organizational boundaries and utilizes strong mentoring skills to support the development of Fire Protection program.Builds strong working relationships with nuclear regulators, business partners, customers, functional leaders, and engineers.

The base pay range for this position is $86,000 - $116,000k. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 3/10/2025.

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
