Yes County Albany Street Address 1220 Washington Ave., Bldg. 7A City Albany State NY Zip Code 12226 Duties Description Under the general direction of the Deputy State Fire Administrator, the incumbent will oversee and manage five regional Fire and Life Safety Branch units as assigned. Duties include, but not limited to the following: •Directs the operation of regional field staff in an assigned technical program and coordinates field operations among fire protection bureaus.•Provides fire protection advice and consultation to boards, commissions, State and local government, federal officials, public officers, and private industry.•Researches and develops fire reporting data capture and analysis methods.•Prepares paper on technical issues in the fire prevention and control field.•Evaluates and recommends local government fire prevention and protection needs, code interpretation, and compliance requirements.•Supervises, reviews and evaluates fire defense capability studies at State facilities.•Directs the preparation of federal grant proposals for assisting local government fire prevention programs as required.•Directs the planning and development of life safety code and fire prevention, and outreach training programs.•Approves the development of public education materials, program curricula, and related materials.•Authorizes the issuance of certifications to approved life safety code and fire prevention programs, instructors, and participants. •Approves the selection of State Fire Instructors and reviews recommendations for terminating technical training courses.•Provides direction and guidance for situations requiring immediate attention in the absence of the Deputy State Fire Administrator and the State Fire Administrator.•Performs the full range of administrative supervisory responsibilities over Fire Protection Specialists 2 and additional staff as assigned.•Assigns work, evaluates work performance, counsels’ staff, approves time off, trains staff, and interviews and selects staff.•Performs other duties and special projects as required. Minimum Qualifications Applicants may be appointed to this position if they are a current New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services employee with one year or more permanent or contingent-permanent service as a Fire Protection Specialist 3 and are interested in reassignment; NOTE: This vacancy posting is for the purposes of notifying individuals about transfer opportunities.
