Fire Security Specialist
Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Fire Security Specialist located in Richmond, CA through November 19th, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. (PST). The Chevron Fire Department is an “all-risk agency” providing services to all Chevron Richmond preparties in the areas of fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical services, technical rescue, hazardous materials incident response, facility security, on-water oil spill response, safety, and other environmental emergencies. The Chevron Fire Department is a customer-oriented industrial Fire Department. Our staffing level consists of 32 full-time paid personnel and 75 Volunteer Firefighters, including process plant operators and maintenance personnel. One main fire station houses the inventory of fire apparatus, including 2 Foam Engines, 1 Foam Ladder Tower, 1 Rescue, 1 Hazardous Materials Unit, 1 Type III Engine, 1 Type IV Engine, Breathing Support, 3 Monitor trucks, and 1 Roll-Off truck, specific pods needed for the different objectives. Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: + Receives work direction from the on-shift Captain and Battalion Chief and responds to any refinery emergency. + Works closely with crew members, operations, maintenance, technical, managerial, and contract personnel focusing on safety, fire prevention, and security. + Focuses on safe operation of the facility. The Fire Security Specialist has a key role in the process for CA OSHA hot work and Confined Space Entry. + Works as a refinery Fire Security Specialist and must understand and enforce Refinery Instructions concerning safe work practices for the facility with a primary focus on OSHA-compliant Hot Work and Confined Space Entry Permit Process. + Conducts safety and security audits, inspects in-plant fire equipment, and is responsible for inspection and upkeep of all emergency response fire apparatus. + Works as a refinery emergency dispatcher, operating refinery radio system, emergency telephone system, refinery and community siren system, and other dispatch duties. + Actively participates in emergency response including, but not limited to, fire, medical aid, Haz-Mat, rescue, oil spill (on water and on land), security incidents, and mutual aid response. + Understands and enforces Refinery Instructions for safe work practices. + Operates portable multi-gas atmospheric detection equipment, specialized single-gas detection equipment, and underground object detection equipment. + Actively completes security patrols of the Chevron Richmond properties and outlying areas, and observes, and reports all suspicious activity. Interacts with police personnel when necessary. Provides guidance to contract security personnel. Assist with security investigations where necessary. Conducts security audits. Writes a wide variety of incident reports. + Capable of working in potentially hazardous environments which may include high temperatures, enclosed spaces, and extreme heights. + Training is mandatory to maintain legal requirements. Travel out of State for training may be required. + Mandatory overtime for training, minimum staffing and to meet the mission-specific operational needs of the facility and department may include extended work schedules. + 12-hour rotating shift position. The current shift schedule has employees working both day and night shifts including holidays and weekends. Our schedule requires employees to work two 7 on 7 offsets in a 28-day period. Rotating shift employees have paid mandatory stand-by requirements on some days off under the 12-hour work schedule rules/agreement. Required Qualifications: + This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing. + Must be medically examined and declared fit for duty by refinery Medical Director to respond to emergencies and to wear all types of Personal Protective Equipment, including SCBA and respirators. + Able to pass a Firefighter physical exam proctored by Chevron Clinic upon hire. + Able to pass a drug screening test proctored by Chevron Clinic upon hire. + California CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) certification by date of hire. + High School Diploma or equivalent + The State of California Emergency Medical Technician certification and/or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician within the probation period. + Minimum 2 years' experience as an active Chevron Fire Brigade Member or minimum 3 – 5 years' experience in a municipal or private fire department. + State of California Firefighter I certificate and/or NFPA 1001 Certification within the probation period. + A valid California Driver's License is always required. + Able to obtain a California Class B Commercial Driver’s license or California Class C Driver’s license (Endorsement 50- Firefighter) within a year of employment. + Able to complete the Chevron Fire Department station physical agility course. + Able to obtain a 160-hour HazMat Technician certification within 1 year of employment. + Able to obtain HazMat Incident Commander certification within 1 year of employment. + Able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) card within 6 months of employment. + Able to obtain I-100, I-200, I-300, 700, and 800 Certificates within 6 months of employment. + Able to obtain State of California Rescue Systems 1 Certificate/Rope Technician within 1 year of employment. + Able to obtain State of California Low Angle Rescue Operations Certificate/Rope Rescue Awareness within 1 year of employment + Able to obtain State of California Hazardous Materials Technician (Hazardous Materials 1A thru 1D) Certificate within 1 year of employment. + Able to obtain NWGC S-130, S-131, and S-190 certificates within 1 year of employment. Preferred Qualifications: + Experience with Firefighting, (municipal, wildland, Industrial) Security and or Law Enforcement, Dispatching, confined space entry testing, use and understanding of portable multi-gas atmospheric detection equipment or specialized single gas detection equipment. + Knowledge and/or work experience with California-compliant OSHA ignition source permit process, driving, and pumping operations of fire apparatus. + Industrial Background. + Excels in strong organizational skills. Ability to take work direction and establish priorities to complete tasks promptly. + Ability to manage/work alone. + Ability to work within the paramilitary structure of the fire department chain of command. + Ability to work within a confined space or at heights. + Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others; understand and follow verbal and written directions. Relocation Options: Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters. International Considerations: Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
