Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Responsibilities You will perform all day-to-day emergency and non-emergency tasks, duties and responsibilities as required. You will perform station, grounds, apparatus, and equipment maintenance. You will perform duties to include but not limited to: extinguishing fires, operating hose lines, set and climb ladders, make forcible entries, ventilate fire areas. You will conduct search and rescue operations, perform salvage and overhaul. You will collect and interpret hazards and response information from printed resources, technical resources, computer databases, and monitoring and testing equipment. You will perform duties as assigned such as decontamination, technical research, reconnaissance, containment, rescue team, medical monitoring, safety officer. You will respond to medical emergencies as an Emergency Medical Technician. You will utilize computer software programs to collect and interpret hazards and response information from computer databases, monitoring and testing equipment, and predicting the likely behavior of released material. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Serving as a Firefighter responding to fires and fire related emergencies involving structures, aircraft, motor vehicles, wild land, and hazardous materials, AND administering emergency care. GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector assisting with tasks as part of an emergency response team responding to fires or fire related emergencies involving structures, aircraft, motor vehicles, wild land, and/or hazardous materials. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Certifications required for GS-05: Firefighter I and II Airport Firefighter Hazmat Awareness Hazmat Operations National Registry (Preferred) or CA Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) 120 days to obtain a CA Class A non-CDL and government driver's license. Education Applicants MUST provide all relevant transcripts needed to verify education substitution for specialized experience. The following education may be substituted for specialized experience as listed in Qualifications section: GS-05: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or related fields of study; Or, a combination of specialized experience and the above-stated education. GS-04: Successful completion of a 2-year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science, or another related field of study; Or, a combination of specialized experience and the above-stated education. Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Vacancies filled from this announcement may be filled at any grade level listed. If selected below the full performance level, you may be non-competitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management.
