The Enterprise Connectivity (EC) Network Security team is seeking a skilled Firewall Engineer who excels at strategic thinking, solving complex challenges, and embedding security into every aspect of their work. In this role, you will be instrumental in driving major security initiatives and ensuring compliance as Lilly continues to grow through site expansions. What You’ll Be Doing:
The Firewall Engineer role will be responsible for helping design, deploy, and manage Next-Gen Firewall (NGFW) solutions at Lilly. In this position, you will play a critical role in securing Lilly’s most critical digital assets by working on major Cybersecurity projects, supporting site expansion initiatives, and working directly with business partners on their security needs. As an ideal candidate, you should have a strong technical background in firewall management, as well as an ability to drive strategic security improvements across our organization. The ability to collaborate effectively across teams is a must, as you will work closely with Cybersecurity, Hosting & Cloud Services, Manufacturing & Quality (M&Q), Lilly Research Labs (LRL), and other application teams.
How You’ll Succeed:
Collaborate with our Managed Network Services (MNS) provider to monitor, maintain, and optimize firewall configurations and rule setsOversee firewall lifecycle management, including software upgrades & patchingEnsure network security policies & firewall hardening standards align with Lilly Cybersecurity & Quality compliance requirementsPartner with MNS provider to troubleshoot and resolve firewall-related incidents, performance issues, and security eventsDrive execution of major projects that both support & secure the businessInfluence firewall design/architecture by working with the EC Network Security architect, Cybersecurity organization, and MNS providerProvide firewall consultation for business partner use cases being driven out of business units such as M&Q and LRLWhat You Should Bring:
Experience in firewall engineering, network security, or cybersecurity operationsStrong understanding of network fundamentalsHands-on experience with NGFW platforms, especially Palo AltoStrong understanding of network security principles, including segmentation, VPNs, NAT, IDS/IPS, and threat mitigationFamiliarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)Experience with SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk) and log analysis is a plusStrong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills (both verbal and written) including ability to articulate technical solutions to non-technical personnelUnderstanding of API scripting for network automation use casesRelevant certifications (e.g., PCNSE, CCNP Security, CISSP) are preferred, but not requiredBasic Requirements:
