Firmware Engineer

The devices we make at SEL are embedded in the power grid. They prevent blackouts. They make outages safer and shorter in duration; they add cybersecurity, automation, and communication. As a Firmware Engineer you will help design and implement the systems that ensure the embedded firmware in these devices performs as specified to provide protection for critical infrastructure and power systems worldwide. 

As a Firmware Engineer a typical day might include the following:   

Contribute to the specification, design, implementation, and test of firmware/software systems. 

Understand hardware and software interactions and collaborate with Hardware Engineers. 

Contribute to the development of designs and test documentation. 

Mentor Engineers, Associate Engineers, and Technicians. 

Serve as a technical contact for internal customers. 

Model, teach, and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles. 

This job might be for you if:  

You have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent 

You have 2+ years’ experience in embedded systems development including: 

Embedded Linux 

Real-time firmware design 

Inter-process communication 

Relational database interaction 

Object oriented programming and design 

Programming languages (C/C++, C#, Python, Delphi, Java)  

Other scripting languages 

Automated tests 

You have experience in one or more of the following areas: 

Network communication protocols 

Industrial controls 

Digital communications and signal processing 

 

Preferred Experience: 

Network routing/firewall 

Common Vulnerability and Exposure analysis 

Cybersecurity principles and best practices 

Specification, design, and test writing

Pay Range Data:

We anticipate filling this position as a Software Engineer $70,000 - $ 108,000. We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the salary range may differ if filled at a different level. Our salary ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
