Job Description Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Organ Donor Hospital Program Liaison to support the life-saving mission of organ donation. This position serves as a critical link between hospitals, transplant teams, and donor families to facilitate organ donation procedures. The ideal candidate will have a healthcare background, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage sensitive situations professionally and empathetically.
Key Responsibilities: Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with hospital staff, including physicians, nurses, and social workers, to support the organ donation process. Coordinate with hospitals to identify potential donors and work with clinical teams to assess donor suitability in compliance with regulatory standards. Educate hospital staff and community members about organ donation processes, protocols, and the importance of donor registration. Serve as the on-site liaison for hospitals during organ donation cases, ensuring a smooth and respectful experience for donor families and medical staff. Oversee the logistical and administrative aspects of the organ recovery process, including medical documentation and regulatory compliance. Provide compassionate support to donor families, helping them understand and navigate the donation process with sensitivity. Facilitate ongoing education and training for hospital staff on organ donation practices, regulations, and ethical considerations. Ensure accurate and timely completion of medical documentation related to donor cases, including maintaining confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA and other regulatory requirements. Collaborate with transplant and organ procurement organizations to coordinate timely organ recovery and transport. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field (nursing, health sciences, or social work preferred). Minimum 2 years of experience in a healthcare, social work, or similar role, ideally in a hospital or clinical setting. Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare systems; experience in transplant or critical care is a plus. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle emotionally sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism. Familiarity with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations. Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple cases with attention to detail. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and on-call hours. Work Environment: This role primarily involves work within hospital settings, with occasional travel between hospitals as needed. Be able to travel between the island of St. Thomas and St. Croix to assist, participate and perform the duties and the responsabilities of the position. Also travel to Puerto Rico when needed for meetings or any other required activity.
