Fish Ticket Assistant

As the Fish Ticket Assistant at one of our seafood processing facilities, this role is a vital role in seafood processing plants, responsible for accurately recording and processing fish tickets. This involves data entry, document verification, record keeping, and basic calculations. The assistant ensures compliance with food safety regulations and quality standards by collaborating with fishermen, plant workers, and supervisors to resolve any discrepancies. Strong attention to detail, numerical skills, and the ability to work efficiently are crucial for success in this fast-paced role. 

  Essential Functions/Qualifications  

The responsibilities of the position include the following:  

Answer phones, radios, greets, responds, and resolves questions.   Sort and distribute incoming fleet mail.   Expedite parts and people around town, airport, businesses, and plant. Record and distribute packages (mail and pickups) to the airport, plant, and to tenders to transport to the fishing grounds.   Maintain flight schedules for inbound and outbound freight.   Knowledge of the Southeast geography by names in order to properly communicate and understand vessel locations.   Manage marine radios, VHF & Satellite.   Working with fleet managers to thoroughly collect critical data to maintain and update multiple spreadsheets daily to the fleet operations.   Generate, receive, and maintain confidential and sensitives files, information and reports and ensure security of these files and information.   Knowledge of different fish species and their characteristics. Other duties as assigned to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful.

Fish Identification: Ability to accurately identify different fish species. Weight and Measurement: Proficiency in using scales and measuring devices to accurately determine the weight and dimensions of fish. Data Entry: Skill in accurately entering data into computer systems or handwritten records. Calculations: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, such as calculating totals and percentages. Regulations Understanding: Knowledge of relevant fishing regulations and standards. Quality Control: Basic understanding of fish quality standards and the ability to identify any defects. 

Interpersonal  

Communication: Effective communication skills to interact with fishermen, buyers, and other team members. Customer Service: Ability to provide excellent customer service to fishermen and buyers. Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others in a fast-paced environment. Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate data entry and record-keeping. Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks. Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing work conditions and priorities. 

Education and Experience  

High School Diploma or GED.  Experience in the seafood industry, particularly in processing or sales.  Customer service experience is preferred but not required.  A valid driver’s license is required for this position.  A proficient computer knowledge of Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel is a huge plus but not required. 

 Work Environment and Schedule  

This job is a hybrid position that will operate in a professional office environment and at times on the dock or on the production floor. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Position requires onsite presence at our Alaska Processing Facility, and the ability to travel, spending a significant amount of time during the season at our various locations and processing facilities in Alaska.  

Physical Demands  

While performing the essential function and job duties associated with the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
