Fitness Specialist - PRN (As Needed)

Founded in 1906, McLeod Health is a locally owned and managed, not for profit organization supported by the strength of more than 900 members on its medical staff and more than 2,900 licensed nurses. McLeod Health is also composed of approximately 15,000 team members and more than 90 physician practices throughout its 18-county service area. With seven hospitals, McLeod Health operates three Health and Fitness Centers, a Sports Medicine and Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, Hospice and Home Health Services. The system currently has 988 licensed beds, including Hospice and Behavioral Health. The hospitals within McLeod Health include: McLeod Regional Medical Center, McLeod Health Dillon, McLeod Health Loris, McLeod Health Seacoast, McLeod Health Cheraw, McLeod Health Clarendon and McLeod Behavioral Health.  

Essential Job Responsibilities/Expectations

1. Job responsibilities include those listed in competencies document

2. Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and

co-workers in accordance with our Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.

3. Provides safe, motivating, and effective individualized exercise instruction. Instructs new members on the

proper use of exercise equipment.

4. Develops exercise programs incorporating all five components of fitness.

5. Reviews each member's fitness and medical history prior to initial training/orientation session.

6. Is prompt and prepared for appointments, shifts, and staff meetings.

7. Is knowledgeable of MHFC programs and promotes them whenever appropriate.

8. Promptly returns all member phone calls.

9. Exhibits good listening skills when member, guest or staff issues arise, and problem solves professionally.

Defers to Manager on Duty if issues need further arbitration.

10. Maintains a neat, clean, and orderly exercise environment. Assists with equipment maintenance as needed.

11. Conducts fitness assessments and orientations with accuracy and efficiency.

12. Brings Fitness Services Manager any questions regarding members' special needs or desires.

13. Does not offer advice outside area of own expertise.

14. Is a role model of good health and fitness.

15. Follows the orientation format as outlined by the Fitness Services Manager.

16. Utilizes Activelinxx Interactive Network Computer System to conduct orientations.

17. Promotes Activelinxx to all members, potential members and staff.

18. Sends a minimum of one message per member each month.

19. Runs Activelinxx performance filters during each shift addressing any requests for review immediately.

20. Address plateaued, inactive, time for review, and poor attendance members weekly. Follows procedures as

outlined by the Fitness Services Manager.

21. Maintains an accurate member base.

22. Makes professional phone calls to offer members encouragement and to identify any member concerns or

needs.

23. Develops and maintains computer skills.

24. Ensures all policies and procedures of the department and the McLeod Health and Fitness Center are being

followed by members, guests, and self.

25. Attends CPR and First Aid practice sessions.

26. Circulates through the facility to identify any equipment or maintenance concerns.

27. Attends and actively participates in staff training as scheduled.

28. Monitors members at all times.

29. Reports all incidences or injuries using the proper forms and submits to the Manager on Duty. 30. Cross trains and supports other departments when appropriate. 31. Interacts with other staff members in a positive, professional manner. Smiles. 32. Contributes new ideas and suggestions. Takes initiative. 33. Completes assigned work on times. 34. Assists the Fitness Services Manager with the distribution of surveys or other mailings. 35. Ensures proper coverage of shifts by substituting for other staff, as well as finding a substitute for oneself in the case of illness, injury or vacation. 36. Follows opening and/or closing procedures.

Job Requirements

Qualifications /Training:

General computer keyboard typing skills preferred.


Licenses/Certifications/Registrations/Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, or related Health Sciences field required.

Current CPR/AED certifications required.
