About the role
We are seeking a skilled Fitter Turner/Machinist to join our team in Devonport, Auckland. This full-time, permanent role involves machining, maintaining, and overhauling key components for ship propulsion and auxiliary systems. You will operate CNC lathes, borers, and multi-axis machining centres, diagnose faults, and carry out high-quality repairs. Working within a highly skilled engineering team, you’ll contribute to complex projects in a fast-paced environment, following strict safety and operational guidelines. Full-time/40+ hours per week $44ph (Trade Cert Essential) 1.5x paid after 40hrs 2x paid after 43hrs
About you
You are a highly skilled and experienced fitter turner/machinist with a strong background in precision machining, mechanical fitting, and equipment maintenance. You excel at diagnosing and repairing mechanical systems, operating CNC machinery, and producing high-quality components to exact specifications. Your ability to work both independently and collaboratively ensures you contribute effectively to a professional team environment. Safety, precision, and efficiency are at the core of your work, and you take pride in delivering quality results in a fast-paced and technically demanding setting.
Key Required Skills
CNC programming, setup, and operation (lathes, borers, machining centres) Precision machining and refurbishment of mechanical components Mechanical fitting, fault diagnosis, and repair Installation and maintenance of ship propulsion and auxiliary systems Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines Effective communication and teamwork in a professional setting
Key Required Qualifications
Trade Certificate (Level 4) in Mechanical/Marine Engineering or a related field Full NZ Driver’s License (Class 1 minimum) Minimum 5 years’ experience in machining, fitting, or mechanical maintenance Experience with CNC machining and marine/industrial equipment maintenance
