Fixed Asset Accountant
Job Description The purpose of this position is to process project and fixed asset transactions within SAP, prepare monthly and annual reports, and reconcile accounts. Job duties will cover the lifespan of fixed assets from project inception, tracking and analyzing spending, capitalizations, retirements, and monthly depreciation. The successful candidate will be able to meet deadlines while demonstrating consistency, an eye for detail, and willingness to ask questions. Within the scope of the position, take personal responsibility to safeguard the companys assets, limit the companys risk exposure, and help ensure the attainment of the companys operating and financial goals. The candidate must be able to navigate across SAPs FI, CO, AP, Procurement, Project and Fixed Asset modules, answer routine project and fixed asset questions, and mine the details needed to answer unusual questions. Major Job Responsibilities (including but not limited to) 1. Create detailed project structures in SAP based upon approved Appropriation Requests 2. Assist coworkers, as needed, with coding project related purchase orders and invoices, preparation of project completion reports, and fixed asset disposal requests and reports 3. Analyze project spending for proper coding and accuracy of capital and expense allocations 4. Determine capitalizations by mapping completed projects to fixed assets with the appropriate asset classes, coding and useful lives 5. Respond to project related journal entries, validate the legitimacy of the request, confirm explanation and approval requirements are met and process in a timely manner 6. Record fixed asset retirements with a focus on accurate characterization, recognition of proceeds, book and tax gains/losses reporting, and executing any subsequent journal entries requirements 7. Process fixed asset transfers between locations or asset classes 8. Execute monthly depreciation in SAP 9. Prepare roll forward reports for system and non-system asset cost and accumulated depreciation activity 10. Calculate annual depreciation budgets by location based upon system assets plus current projected capitalizations 11. Prepare monthly entries to record depletion costs, calculated capitalized interest, and project salaries not directly related to payroll 12. Assist general accounting and tax departments during the annual audit, preparation of tax returns, and other tasks related to projects and fixed assets as needed 13.
