Fleet Technical Engineer

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has become available in the Rolling Stock business for a Technical Engineer based in Glasgow. Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will provide technical engineering capability at the local depot level, developing engineering solutions to ensure the fleet continues to operate in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner for our customers.

Working closely with the Performance Team and the customer, you will monitor and understand issues affecting the safety, reliability, maintainability and availability of the fleet and progress engineering activities to resolve them as well as generating solutions for identified technical issues and customer variation enquiries.

You’ll make an impact by

Producing Engineering Change Control documentation (RIS-2700) for trials and modifications to implement solutions and eradicate technical problems identified. Timely resolution of engineering issues allocated from the Technical Issues database. Developing cost effective solutions to improve safety, reliability, and availability Reviewing and improving Vehicle Maintenance instructions (VMIs) and Procedures (VMPs) to support maintenance improvement Liaising with production to feedback and cascade knowledge to the production teams and author technical briefs. Assisting other team members with the development of technical skills through technical coaching. Providing support to the wider engineering team in Safety Related Defect (SRD) investigation and engineering investigations Supporting the fleet reliability improvement planning and implementation. Engaging in discussions with suppliers to discuss possible solutions to component failures. Deputising for the Technical Manager where required. Collaborating and communicating with other teams, departments, and individuals.

What qualifications and experience do you need?

HNC/HND Qualification in electrical engineering.In depth experience within the Railway/Rolling Stock industry. Knowledge of railway maintenance techniques and procedures would be advantageous. Ability to translate mechanical and electrical drawings, systematic fault finding and your expertise in solving problems. Excellent knowledge of IT systems and software. Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Excellent organisational and planning skills. Your passion to deliver a high standard of work, present findings, willingness to communicate using different methods and build key relationships to support your role.
