The role:

Flight Technical and Safety Manager.

A rare opportunity to join the Flight Operations Department working in the Airbus Technical team for the Flight Manager Technical. The team is responsible for the safety, efficiency, regulatory compliance and operational policy of all British Airway Airbus aircraft.

Safety is core to all we do. Put yourself in the frontline of flight safety, analysing safety reports, flight data and debriefing flight crew to drive continuous improvement in safety.

You’ll be joining a team that are pivotal within the airline, implementing new operational approvals, evaluating challenging destinations and championing aircraft technological upgrades to improve safety and efficiency.

What you’ll do:

Responsible for the safe, secure and legally compliant flying and ground operation of the fleet in relation to flight technical matters including compliance with all regulatory requirements including those in UK Air Ops, and the Air Navigation Order (ANO) whilst meeting the needs of the business.Timely and effective investigation of all Air Safety Reports (ASR), ensuring that root-cause is established and recorded.Evaluation of FDM and ASR data to understand risk trends and areas for focus and improvement.Responsible for highlighting to Chief Pilot Technical any issues with potential for positive or negative impact on safety, quality or cost and, where appropriate to make recommendations for a solution.Make recommendations for SOP development on the fleet.Responsible for developing technical projects where required and representing the fleet-type on projects/initiatives, where appropriate.Timely and accurate preparation and maintenance of the type-specific aircraft manuals.Responsible for the consistency and accuracy of technical advice given through the fleet-type Operations Manual.Technical and safety communication with flight crew on the fleet.Establishing effective communication and influence with the Engineering Department for all fleet specific matters.To assume the ‘on-duty’ Flight Technical manager role in rotation ensuring that there is appropriate office cover for the fleet at all times.

To represent BA Flight Technical issues to CAA, EASA, BALPA and other industry bodies.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

In-depth and current understanding of regulatory framework and issuesThorough understanding of Ops Manuals.In-depth knowledge of aircraft systems and technical specificationsDemonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively as part of a team.Demonstration of resilience under pressure.Strong inter-personal skills.The ability to build effective relationships both internally and externally.Good communication skills with an ability to convey complex technical data (both written & oral).Experience of working in an operational environment.Awareness of the significance of the role in a safety-critical and operational context.Highly IT literate.

Your experience:

Thorough knowledge of aircraft systems.Thorough knowledge of relevant regulations, particularly UK Air OPS.Aeronautical, Engineering (or equivalent) to Degree standard (or equivalent) (Desirable).Experience in analysing safety data (reports and/or FDM traces) in an aviation Management System (Desirable)
