Serving under the direction of the Social Services & Volunteer Coordinator, assisting with the outreach and administrative services of the food pantry for the East Cleveland community, recognizing their spiritual, emotional, physical & social needs. The Food Pantry Assistant will support and maintain the Mission of The Salvation Army and the Vision of the East Cleveland Corps, in accordance with all applicable internal & external policies and procedures. This position pays $13/hour

Responsibilities

As directed by the Social Services & Volunteer Coordinator:
• Assist with food delivery, including verification of the contents of the delivery bill and unloading of goods. Ensure all invoices are forwarded to the Corps Officers immediately.
• Stock shelves of all food items adhering to applicable health codes & practices
• Follow Client Food Choice guidelines for content to be chosen by clients.
• Conduct intake process for all new clients including verification of income & household demographics
• Assist with the annual re-verification process for all clients
• Ensure that Food Pantry hours remain regular and consistent, based on an approved schedule
• Maintain the cleanliness of the assigned work area and the Food Pantry, reporting any unsafe conditions to the Social Services & Volunteer Coordinator and/or Corps Officers.
• Maintain records of all in-kind donations
• Assist the Social Services & Volunteer Coordinator with related duties to ensure the smooth operation of the East Cleveland Corps Social Services Department.
• Maintain current and accurate records on social services provided, ensuring that confidentiality is strictly maintained.
• Participate in and support the implementation of special activities and events for the East Cleveland Corps.
• Be prepared and willing to assist with the administration of seasonal programs including Christmas Toys & Kettles, Back-To-School, etc.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervise assigned volunteers
• Assist with supervision of assigned Summer Youth participants

 

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED with 1-2 years of related experience preferred
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must conduct oneself in a manner which reflects credit on The Salvation Army, its leadership, and on the Lord Jesus Christ.
• Must be able to function in a fast-paced, frequently changing work environment with the ability to multi-task.
• Must possess strong organization skills and be detail oriented.
• Must possess a professional attitude and approach to problem-solving.
• Must be able to relate well to all people and be a team player.
• Must possess excellent communication skills.
• Must possess the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Must possess computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn other programs as used by The Salvation Army.
