JOB PURPOSE:
The Food Safety & Sanitation Manager Appetizers has overall responsibility to get implemented microbiology and food safety standardized programs for McCain Appetizers Europe and Van Geloven; acting from farm to fork, including Innovation and Research & Development to ensure product safety and stability.
He/She brings credible expertise, provides leadership and oversight for Food Safety, including HACCP, micro risk assessments, environmental monitoring programs, thermal validation, allergen management, foreign material controls, hygienic equipment design, capability development and culture.
The Food Safety & Sanitation Manager Apps ensures the food safety programs meet not only McCain requirements, but also those of key customers and regulators.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Food safety programs: assure the development, execution, and implementation, in partnership with Plants teams, of standardized programs (HACCP, GMPs rules, Food safety training, …) across the Appetizers plants of the region.
- Risk assessments: perform and / or validate risk assessments of facilities, programs, processes, equipment’s, products, and ingredients, including changes coming from the change process.
- Food safety critical points: design and co-execute validation studies with Plant FS&Q team.
- Detection equipment: provide support in validation and verification, develop and maintain a mapping of all equipment’s including ongoing efficiency and replacement cycles. · New equipment’s: contribute to Engineering projects food safety design assessment.
- Food safety regulatory requirements: ensure compliance with applicable Food safety regulatory requirements (EU, National, Local, including FSMA) by monitoring laws modifications, performing risk analysis and implementing the adaptations required, with Plants FS&Q teams.
- Food Safety Standards: be knowledgeable on Food satefy requirements of the standards (BRC, IFS, AIB, SQMS, KEFSQ, …), evaluate each new version and ensure compliance (in collaboration with Plants FS&Q teams) within the food chain related to Appetizers.
- Sanitation programs: contribute to the development, execution, and implementation, in partnership with Plant teams, of sSOPs, track effectiveness through development of robust pre-operational inspection programs.
- Food safety performance: drive a quality first mindset with food safety built into business processes at the very earliest points; provide data driven measures and share trends analysis relating to food safety performance with Plant Leadership Teams.
- Food safety Incidents: provide support to Appetizers regional teams, expertise to assist with sampling plan (ex: AQL), risk analysis, disposition of product, and provide support to ensure all Food safety CAPAs are effective, closed and validated.
- Food safety culture: Champion a strong food safety culture across the organization.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Master’s degree in food science, microbiology or related technical discipline
- Minimum three (3) years of experience working within a food manufacturing organization with progressive roles in FS&Q
- Experience with FSMA (including Preventive Controls, FSVP, Sanitary Transport, and Intentional Adulteration); HACCP/HARPC plan design, measurement, documentation, & training required
- HACCP certification required. FSMA PCQI and GFSI (IFS, BRC, SQF or FSSC 22000) certifications preferred.
- Understands and can apply microbiological principles. In depth foodborne pathogen knowledge.
- Knowledge of EU food laws, and U.S/Canadian regulations is a plus.
- Knowledge of Equipment design, sanitation, validation (Ex: EHEDG hygienic design).
- Knowledge in chemistry with specifics in sanitation applications
- Experience in auditing and risk assessment (microbiology, allergens, foreign material, food fraud, ingredient, suppliers, deviation, …)
- Experience in root cause analysis (DMAIC; 5 Ws, 5Ms, …)
