Job Description

WHAT'S THE JOB?

Under the supervision of the District Manager, The Food Service Director is responsible for the overall management and success of food service operations, including cafés, franchises, and catering events. This role oversees staff, financial administration, menu planning, and compliance with health and safety standards. The Food Service Director ensures high-quality food service delivery, cost control, and exceptional customer satisfaction while fostering a productive and professional work environment.

Specific Accountabilities

Operations & Compliance

Develop and implement café and catering menus with the Chef, aligning with company themes and the Healthwise Choices© Program.Enforce food safety and health regulations (FoodSafe/ServeSafe), ensuring compliance with legislation and company policies.Monitor staff performance, providing training on food handling, equipment use, and safety procedures.Manage inventory, ordering, and stock rotation to minimize waste and control costs.Maintain food quality, portion control, and budget expectations.Identify and escalate equipment issues for prompt resolution.

Financial & Administrative Oversight

Conduct inventory audits and maintain accurate financial records.Manage payroll, track attendance, and ensure timely reporting.Optimize budgets, control expenditures, and maximize profitability.Ensure compliance with cash handling security procedures.

Staff Leadership & Development

Schedule and assign staff shifts based on business needs and team capabilities.Train, mentor, and develop employees, fostering career growth.Address employee concerns and maintain a positive, safe work environment.Communicate policy updates and procedural changes effectively.

Customer & Client Relations

Act as a primary liaison with clients, ensuring needs are met within company guidelines.Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.Maintain high standards of service speed and customer satisfaction.Uphold company values and ethical business practices.

Business Strategy & Growth

Develop and execute marketing and business plans, setting goals and action strategies.Participate in management meetings, providing performance insights and strategic recommendations.Oversee new unit openings and franchise compliance.Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

University Degree or College Diploma in hospitality management or a related field.Minimum of seven years of experience leading high-volume culinary teams in the food service industry preferrably in a multi-unit environment.Previous experience in business administration with knowledge of employee management in a unionized environment.ServeSafe and/or FoodSafe certification required.Full Starbucks Barista and Manager Certification an asset.Tim Hortons Manager Certification an asset.Red Seal Chef certification is an asset.Proficiency in computer systems, including POS equipment and office software

Functional Competencies

Expertise in streamlining food service operations to ensure productivity and compliance.Strong understanding of budgeting, cost control, and financial planning.Commitment to delivering exceptional service and building client relationships.Knowledge of food safety, occupational health standards, and business policies.Ability to assess situations and implement effective solutions under pressure.Superior verbal and written communication skills Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle employee and customer concerns professionally and confidentially.
